Title: 98 monster tail chop seat latch trouble
Post by: lawmaster891 on July 05, 2011, 04:42:02 PM
i am about to do a tail chop on my 98 monster and the seat latch cable goes through the beer tray part of the frame. i have heard of people flipping the cable but i cant figure out what to do with the seat latch where the key goes. i have seen other threads where people posted the same problem but cant find pics of it. can anybody show me a pic of it done and what they did with the key lock. i would like to keep it there and not just run a pull cable to unlock it

I just did mine on my '97 M750 and had the same problem, I'll try and take pictures today and post them later.

When I did my tail chop, I just cut it off where I thought it looked best and then touched up the paint. As far as the cable goes, I just unhooked one end and re-routed it. These are pics I already had, I'll try to get a better pic this evening.

Huh... maybe my bike was different somehow (2000 M750), but I didn't have to reroute anything when I tail-chopped mine.  I also used a TPO tail chop kit, which might have had something to do with it, but judging from the photos i don't really think it did.

Here's how I cut it and how I routed the cable.

P.S.
I like how you placed your tail light cables under the seat latch Timmy Tucker, good idea, so is touching up the ends. I might have to do that!  [thumbsup]

Not sure if those fame plugs will still fit with the way the OP cut the frame.  (S)He cut the frame tube at an angle.  The plugs were made to fit the frame with a perpendicular cut.

Good catch. Mine were very tight and I ended up having to seat them with a dead-blow mallet. Those frame tubes will need to be squared off and de-burred for the frame plugs to fit.
