getting new tires on the car today, bc they are due.
i wentt to a discount tire place in socal here, and basically i cant' believe its going to cost around 500 installed for 4 tires pirelli and those are not even the most expensive optiions, the oem goodyear tires were 80 more total for 4... wtf when did tires get so expensive.?
Did you shop around a bit before you decided to go with this discount place?
discounttiredirect.com is sometimes a good option...
Which tire/size did you go with?
I only wish I could get out of a tire shop for $500!
I have had really good luck with www.tirerack.com
Wow... My truck uses 265/70R16 tires. I'm getting out for $488 mounted ~
JM
Tires require petroleum to make, so I'm not surprised they're going up.
Sometimes the offbeat sizes are pricey.
+1 on tirerack, it's a decent option.
Definitely try tirerack.com and discounttire.com. I recently used discount tire for my car. My OEM tires were super expensive and not that good. I ended up getting better tires for half the price. I did find that a set of dunlop's were $60 more on tire rack so make sure to compare the prices.
Spending money on decent tires sure beats the hell out of using really cheap tires. Ugh.
Had to replace all 4 tires on my cadi, cost 800
I think car tires are cheap compared to moto tires. :-\

That's just a little less than the cost for the two back tires for the Porsche - Every 10,000 miles. :(
damn those porsche tires go fast, guess its from driving the porsche fast eh ;D
anyway, yes i know about tirerack, just didnt' have enough time to do it, so went the local place route, their prices are more than tirerack but fair so really no complaintes there.
yes i realize that tires go up bc petro goes up, that makes sense,.. its my normal pregnant doging about it that i have to do, but i'm now good for at least another 4 years as these are 80k miles tires so they should last me for at least the next 5 years as i dont' drive that many miles in tht short o time.
funny thing is that the mtoto tires will cost about 2/3 the price of the car tires, i have to get those put on in the next couple of days.. and just bought new bicycle tires for the road bike.. so i'm buying nothing but rubber this month.. expensive [laugh]

Agreed.. ~$300 for a set every 5K :o
Just curious ... what anyone's thoughts on Costco's prices and brands relative to other places?
It's my first thought but if there are better options, I'm interested in knowing.
Last 3 set from tirerack [thumbsup]

I guess it all depends on the application of the tires. It seems like no matter what tires I run on my Civic, and the type of driving I do, I get 50k-55k per set, whether they are Bridgestone, Dunlop, Yokohama, or some el-cheapo "Lexington" brand tire that is supposed to be made by Goodyear, as the line of BS goes. Either way, $229 mounted and balanced for a set of cheap tires is fine with me. At nearly a quarter of a million miles, I keep thinking this may be my last set of tires, anyway......or maybe the set after these. [laugh]
On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be any cheap 17" tires for my wife's VW Jetta 1.8T with sport suspension.
I have run-flats, now those are expensive. [bang]

Yeah thats about right if your heavy on the go pedal. What sucks is when some of my customers spend every last dime they have on making the payments and then don't leave any to maintain the car. The cars are rock solid but the once a year services, tires, and sometimes brakes can sneak up on some people.

A point I always notice in some friends with theirs ... they know the cost of buying one but never think of the cost owning one. They are not the right ones to own 'em! [bang]
At least my bro knows what it means to own one. [thumbsup]

They are all expensive... Over the last 4 months - 3 cars, - 10 tires and 3 bikes - 5 tires, $3,800. I'm done for a while!
for the moto tires, check out www.motorcycle-superstore.com - great prices, and quick delivery [thumbsup]
subaru STI ... 15,000 miles, and a set of new shoes cost $1000.
