Title: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on July 08, 2011, 04:39:48 PM So who wants to go to the range some time to get our firearm on? The options are Wednesday through Sunday until 5pm at the outdoor ABQ shooting range park near Double Eagle Airport, and at Caliber's, which is an indoor range until 8pm.
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Zaster on July 08, 2011, 05:06:25 PM Can't wait...I'm ready to go

I miss living in NZ where guns are easy and legal to go out and have some fun with. Here in Aus land [leo] doesn't take kindly to it! Maybe I should join a rifle club :-\
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: nicrosato on July 09, 2011, 06:01:29 AM I'm up for this when I get back to ABQ.

Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: crat996 on July 09, 2011, 07:27:51 AM I'm down for some shooting fun. Let's do it!
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on July 11, 2011, 06:32:50 AM On Monday's it's half off at calibers after 6 or 7 Half off range fees at Caliber's starts at 5pm every Monday. Who would like to get some shooting in on a Monday? Pretty much the range fee at half off is 10 dollars, a handgun rental if you don't have one is another 10 dollars, or 20 dollars for a semi-automatic rifle, or 30 dollars for an automatic Uzi or Mac-10. You can buy ammo there, but it's expensive, and if you rent their guns you have to buy their ammo. Also, they only allow brass on the range, so no steel casings. Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on July 11, 2011, 07:10:54 AM we would be down for some monday [thumbsup]
but it may be a few weeks out because mr matt is hurty little bear :-\ Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on November 10, 2011, 09:34:44 PM So, I'm going to the range in westside, by Double Eagle Airport on Saturday at 1:30. The weather is supposed to be pretty warm, so should be about 60 degrees around then. Not too bad!
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on November 11, 2011, 08:41:37 AM So, I'm going to the range in westside, by Double Eagle Airport on Saturday at 1:30. The weather is supposed to be pretty warm, so should be about 60 degrees around then. Not too bad! I might join you. I just reloaded a bunch of 357 SIG, .38 special, and .270 Win. Edit: just added some .40 S&W to the pile. Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on November 11, 2011, 02:05:06 PM I have second thoughts about reloading .40 S&W. Especially with the KBs you can get by shooting reloads out of the Glock 22.
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Zaster on November 11, 2011, 05:36:59 PM I might join you, what are you planning on shooting...handguns and rifles?
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on November 11, 2011, 11:18:31 PM I'm only bringing my Glock, bring whatever you want, you can even shoot muzzleloaders at the range.
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on November 12, 2011, 07:47:23 AM I have second thoughts about reloading .40 S&W. Especially with the KBs you can get by shooting reloads out of the Glock 22. It's all in how you load it. I think some are trying to push the envelope with .40, but Glocks are made to pretty specific tolerances. No such thing as a +P load for .40, so if you push higher pressures you're in uncharted territory. Regardless, any gun will explode if you put too much powder behind too big of a bullet. The loads I just made for .40 are 5.4 grains (+/- 0.1 grains) of HP38 behind 155 grain Speer TMJ/FP bullets... not a real heavy load - mid-range pressures. I'll be using a Glock 23. For the 357 SIG I'll use the same gun with a Lone Wolf 357 SIG barrel. And Karl, yes I'll be bringing a rifle. Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: DonJuanDucati on November 12, 2011, 10:10:19 AM I've been really lagging getting a 357 barrel for my Glock 22. I've wanted to do it for a long time. Anyways, I thought it wasn't just a problem with Glocks, reusing brass in .40 S&W means its going to be slightly weakened, especially around the back end, where because of the size of the cartridge, is usually unsupported because the way the loading ramp has to be.
Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on November 12, 2011, 10:37:15 AM I've been really lagging getting a 357 barrel for my Glock 22. I've been reloading all my life. As long as you stay under SAAMI pressures you should be good to go. SAAMI specs for .40 is 35,000 PSI and 357 SIG is 40,000. The brass is designed to handle those pressures, even with some of it unsupported, and even with repeated reloads. I never reload to maximum pressure anyway because I only use it for target practice. For carry ammo I use the premium factory stuff. Some people get 100 reloads out of brass, but I lose too much of it to get more than about ten, especially with an autoloader that throws the brass. Some people neck down .40 brass and use it for 357 SIG, but I don't think it's a good idea. Because of higher pressures 357 SIG brass is designed to be a bit more robust. Forty brass is too weak for SIG pressures. Also, if you neck down .40 the case will be about 0.020" too short and head spacing will be off. SIG is head spaced on the neck, not the shoulder, however in some guns it will 'sort of' headspace on the shoulder, but that puts a lot of stress on the brass - brass that's not really up to the task of 40,000 PSI. Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Zaster on November 12, 2011, 04:05:09 PM ...and here is the proof that it happened:
(http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/zaster99/011-1.jpg) the little holes were made by a .22 H&K revolver and the big ones by a Glock23 40S&W Marco warming up his toy: (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/zaster99/014.jpg) Caleb squeezing off some fast rounds: (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/zaster99/015-1.jpg) Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on November 12, 2011, 05:18:11 PM That was fun, we should do it more often. I realize that it is a lot easier to kill paper targets than an elk...wish us luck ;) (http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn127/zaster99/001_zps678d9d56.jpg) Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on October 07, 2012, 02:38:06 PM ...and here are the results. Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Axel on October 21, 2012, 06:33:25 PM are you talking handgun? There are some handguns for it but no, mine is a rifle. It's 45-70. It will deliver a 400-grain bullet downrange at almost twice the speed of sound (more than 2000 FPS). The rifle I got is a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun. It's a lever-action with a short 18-inch ported barrel. I have yet to shoot it, but am sure glad that I reload - ammo costs between $35 and $150 for a box of 20.(http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae42/axelwik/P1020896.jpg) Title: Re: Ducati Shooting Night Post by: Zaster on October 21, 2012, 06:58:16 PM Good find [thumbsup] Nice brush gun for deer hunting in NM...unless you want to go for elephant in Africa ;D
