Title: '10 M1100S maintenance
Post by: mjocanada on July 09, 2011, 04:46:39 AM
Hi everyone, I picked up a dealer demo '10 M1100S back in January and have been enjoying the bike as much as the weather permits. It just went into the dealership for the 12,000kms service, oil & filter, valve adjustment, etc. I'm not extremely mechanically inclined so I don't mind paying the dealership for the proper service but I would like to do the smaller maintenance myself.

I did a few searches on the forum for answers but still have a couple questions for the tech experts here on DMF:

1. The owners manual shows me the specifications for the chain slack but no instructions on how to tighten the chain, does anyone have a set of instructions including torque settings? The whole single-sided swingarm is really cool but a bit of a mystery on tightening the chain.

2. I was told by the mechanic that the tires need to be replaced but the dealership cost is really high; both on tire pricing and installation labour. On my previous bikes, I usually just bring the tires/rims to a local shop and he only charges $20/wheel. I know how to remove the rear wheel but not the front, I found this thread:

Is this the same for my M1100S with the Ohlins suspension? And does anyone have the proper torque settings when I reinstall the wheel?

Thanks so much for any help, this community is awesome!  [thumbsup]

Post up your location, the best would be if a local member could show you.  I find that for basic stuff like this that if it isn't obvious when you look at the bike a text-based description will probably not help much, but 20 minutes with someone showing you in person will have it sorted.  Enjoy the new bike  [clap]
