Probably another newbie question that has been discussed before that I couldn't find... with that said, my nuetral light is not working. I thought it was just the light, which I wouldn't worry about since you can't trust them anyways. But, when I am for sure in nuetral, the bike still shuts off if I put the kickstand down, just like it would if in gear. This makes it a little irritating to let the bike warm up since I have to sit on it with the kickstand up to start it and wait for it to wrm up. Is there an easily located nuetral sensor to check? It looks like there is one on the kickstand itself and then one that runs to the motor itself, but I'm not sure what I should be checking or looking for. Ideas or suggfestions? Thanks everyone!
When asking a technical question it is a good idea to state year, model and engine.
Anyway, the switch on the sidestand is position (up or down ) input either the safety relay or computer, depending on year and model. The neutral switch is located in the rear of the engine by the swing arm. It is in a recess. Remove the wire and ground the wire with the key on. The neutral light is now on? You need a neutral switch.

Sorry about that, it's a 2001 M750. I removed the rear wire from the nuetral switch as you mentioned and grounded it, and indeed the light came on. While putting it back, I noticed it seemed very loose. Looks like the culprit is just a bad push connector. I crimped it back tight and when I put it back on this time, the light came back on. Been working so far, but I will probably put a new connector on tomorrow. Guess I got lucky this time. Only had the bike for a few months and it's my first, so thanks for your help!
Thanks for the suggestion for testing the neutral switch, howie. Tried that on my bike (2000 M900), cleaned the contacts on the electrical connector and the neutral light came back.
I also tested my oil pressure light, which hasn't worked in years. Sure enough, the light came on. I tried cleaning the contacts on the electrical connection at the switch, but that had no effect. Do you know if there's any chance that the switch/sensor for oil pressure could be removed and cleaned up or something to get it to work again? If not, I wonder how much those things cost.
