^ nah, I just like to flap my mouth ;)

So, here's my favorit Sushi place in the DC area

KOTOBUKI Sushi & Kamameshi

4822 MacArthur Blvd., NW, 2nd Floor
Washington, D.C. 20007
202-281-6679

It's a pretty small place (just above another sushi restaurant) but they're informal and friendly and they always play The Beetles in the background. They mostly have the "traditional" types of sushi, not the fancy Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Firecrackers out the @$$. But what they have is just great! The place gets really packed on the weekends, and it can take a while to get seated. Last time I ordered a beer and drank it on the stairs with my friends (soon other people imiteated my idea [laugh] [beer]) so my wife and I tend to go there during the week.

My absolute favorite pick from their menu is the Fatty Tuna (Toro) hand formed (Nigiri) sushi. [drool]

I was going to post mine , and got distracted at work.

Well here is mine

Myanmar restaurant

7810 Lee Highway # C,
Falls Church, VA 22043

This is a hole in a wall place, family owned and operated. I been going there for almost 7 years now . DO NOT expect great service like you would on any chain restaurants or such , as it is family run . But food is to die for , flavor is usually chinese and indian mixed. And if you not into spicy stuffs , you can request them to make it less spicy.  If you live around falls church area def give it a try.

My favorite dish : Tilapia whole fried fish. goat curry and balachwang . their salads are awesome too .

KOTOBUKI Sushi & Kamameshi

+ a few.

Used to go there for lunch from time to time when we were working in Bethesda.  Shame that we don't have much of any decent sushi joints close to work now...

El Pollo Rico‎
932 North Kenmore Street (2 1/2 blocks from Virginia Square metro)
Arlington, VA 22201

Chicken, chicken, chicken (Peruvian)! A community style dining hall. You will share a table with strangers and get very messy. Mix the sauces for best results.

Sounds quite tasty, but maybe a bit distressing afterwards.

With a recommendation like that, we should hit this joint for a weekly meetup sometime!

Speaking of close to you...  What happened with Sfizi's?  Stopped by there the other night and it was completely gutted on the inside.  Is he renovating, or gone?

So the place next door is owned by his brother.  Lino moved to Falls Church and his brother is expanding into the spot that was Sfizi.  I don't know if it will be the same thing (nice restaurant) or something more casual with take out.  I should stop by and ask, we haven't had dinner there in ages.

He hooked me up with some of his family in Arezzo in case I wanted to EXPORT SOME STUFF FROM ITALY.

Rabieng on 7 between 7 corners and baileys cross roads
http://www.rabiengthai.com/ (http://www.rabiengthai.com/)

Owned by the same family as Duangrats. Not as fancy, but they do Thai country comfort foods and there's some damn good eating to be done there.

Name of the place: Ruan Thai
Address: 11407 Amherst Ave
             Wheaton, MD, 20902
Your thoughts of the place: It's always packed for a reason...the food is great! I've been going there for 10 years and have never had a single complaint. Do not go if you're in a hurry...there apparently isn't a word for fast in Thai. [laugh]
and your fav pick off the menu:I only get one?!? Some of my favorites...the mussels appetizer, the fried watercress, the green curry, the yellow curry, pad thai, pad kao prao, and larb gai.

Summary: YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And when I'm in the mood for spicy, I don't head for Thai or Indian... I head straight to Mandalay and their CH13 (chicken 13). Bring your sphincter balm...you're gonna need it before you get out the door.

Name of the place: Mandalay Restaurant and Cafe

Address:930 Bonifant St.
            Silver Spring, MD 20910-4514

Your thoughts of the place: 10 years ago, this place was in College Park and got pushed out by better developments in College Park but ended up in the used to be "new" silver spring downtown. It was a hole in the wall in CP with a line out the door. They're much bigger now and there's not a wait as often. The good news is the food is still great!

and your fav pick off the menu:
About every fourth time, I say I'm going to get something new but I almost always end up going back to CH13, Chicken strips (white meat) boiled and served with lemon-soy, crushed peanuts, and sesame seed sauce. This dish is served room temperature and you'll be glad that it's not temperature hot because your oral spice sensors are about to be served! (This may have something to do with me reminding the guy that if I don't sweat when I eat it then I'm not going to pay for it. ;D

To cool down afterward, I get the D01 ShweJi Cream of wheat, coconut cream, sugar, egg, milk, and raisins, topped with poppy
seeds, then baked until lightly golden brown...not particularly sweet, but absolutely delicious! Coconut milk, you can't go wrong with that!

Here's one out there in Bal'mer:

Name:  Miss Shirley's
Address: 513 W. Coldspring Lane, Baltimore, MD

Thoughts:  This place rocks for one reason, breakfast food all the damn time.  It's like going to an upscale diner and iHop all rolled into one with your grandma in the kitchen cooking something the good old fashion way.  The food is unreal good and why no ones figured out to open a hotel next door so you can sleep off all that tasty goodness is beyond me.  Last time I was there I felt like I needed to adjust my shock for the extra weight I gained upon leaving.

Menu favorite:  Pancakes are the nice big fluffy kind, add two eggs over hard and some  [bacon] [bacon] and you're all set.  Not a fan or pancakes, sub that with their french toast or waffles and you are still good to do.  If I want something a little heavier I go with the steak and eggs (#WINNING).

Here's the link to the menu just in case you want to drool.

Bonifant is a block off of the "new SS" development, which is basically all chains. In fact it's the OG Silver Spring: it's also got Thai Derm and Bombay Gaylord - two other great restaurants (Thai and Indian).

+1 on the Mandalay - and when you answer "extra spicy" they don't mess around.

Thought I'd drop a couple of reviews in here:

1. Todd Gray's Watershed
1225 1st St NE
(between N M St & N Patterson St)

Food was great. Started with the calamari, which was very lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. I had a tile fish special with a really good wild mushroom sauce with lots of perfectly cooked fresh veggies. Was a bit pricy ($120/2 people), but not terribly out of line for the amount and quality of food.

2. Buddha Bar DC
455 Mass Av NW

The music and drinks were great. Typical DC prices for drinks. The appetizers were generally very good (Shrimp potstickers and spring rolls) and I wish I would have stopped there but we split the tuna tartar, which was totally unimpressive. My rockfish entree was well cooked and absolutely delicious...mizo and yuzu sauce: Yum!!!!! Generally thought the food was overpriced.

You're doing it wrong. Get the Chicken and Waffles.

Ok, here's one of my favorites.

Annabelle Lee's Tavern
601 S. Clinton St.
Baltimore, MD 21224

Smaller food menu, but everything, and I mean without exception is amazing. Beer menu outweighs the food menu in size, and they rotate it enough to grab something new each time. It's a smaller place, your typical Baltimore hallway bar/restaurant, but it's staffed by an extremely knowledgeable and polite group of folks. Maintains a very hometown bar feel while being sophisticated with ecelectic choices. It's honestly hard to recommend one thing, but if you go, my money would be starting with either the Duck Fat Fries or the Resurrection Mac n' Cheese. For sandwiches I usually go for the Annapolis (grilled chicken topped with their crab dip) and my favorite entree is the orange roughy tacos. Seriously though, you can't go wrong.

For you Montgomery County types, Nava Thai is a wonderful establishment.  Right around the corner from the Hagis joint we patronized a couple times.

Great food and wayy hotter waitresses than the Hagis place!

Cock and Bowl in Occoquan, Mussels and Belgian Beers, small place not for big crowds, and to get there you might find a few roads between Rt. 123 and Rt. 28/234 Northwest of Occoquan. - Gene

Love that place. The beer is a bit pricey considering you can get most of that stuff at Total Wine, but at least there you get to drink it out of a matching glass. Makes it taste about 10% better!

No they don't, not enough room even on the outside patio. And speaking for myself it would not interest me in the least and I don't recall that Trabollen was even that popular in Belguim when I spent 6 years over in Europe. Trabollen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWeH9LYlBd4#) Go up to Detroit if you want to play here in USA- Gene

I used to live in Detroit and have fond memories of beverages and bowling at the Cadieux Cafe.  The thought of a capturing just a sliver of those memories prompted my query.  But alas, you can never go back......
