Hey guys,
I was doing some cleaning and noticed a connector had been cut off of my bike on the front main wire harness. I had been having issues with my Rectifier and was doing some testing and that is how I found this rogue wire! Does anyone know what it should be connected too? It has 2 wires one black and one gray.

This is going to bug me, mine has the same on the schematics (2000). Where exactly is it located?

This wire was in the main bundle up under by the horn. When I pulled the rectifier off I saw that it was just twisted around and tucked away.
The correct way to id the wire(s) is to note the color and look in the owner's manual. The parts manual does not provide function, only parts.
Each wire is color coded. The owners manual has the color chart and a schematic with the colors identified and where they are on the bike.
Looked at the wiring schematic and it looks like it might be the side stand warning light. That is the only solid gray wire I see.

and that's why they color code them! i bet the side stand sensor is removed too
I don't buy it! Checking tomorrow, drinking too much now. It'll drive me nuts. I had a thought it may be for that sensor that nobody really knows what it does; I've always suspected it's for the carb heater.

carb heater is an option but is manually operated. i have one here if you need it.
The electric carb heaters use bullet connectors. I don't think they were used on the '98 and doubt anyone would go throogh the labor and expense of the retrofit.
And the winner is... Ducatiz. Dangit! Yep, sidestand switch. There is no reason for those wires to go down the right side of the bike, under the VR, and then down the left!!
And my carb heater's good, as far as I know.
I bought the bike second hand and never had the sidestand to worry about ...It just never came on...Thanks for the help guys!! I new I bought that manual for some reason :) maybe I will use it more often [laugh]
RTFM!
