Post by: jason 900sie on July 12, 2011, 06:33:53 PM
Help please: i'm a bit of a clean freak and just bought a 2001 monster 900sie.The guy who had it before obviously didn't think it was important to do much cleaning.I was wondering if anyone had any tips for getting baked on road crap off my motor?

I used dish soap and one of those sponges with the netting that are for removing bugs from windshields.  It worked great on most of the grime.  They're $1 a Big Lots or similar stores.

Test the carb cleaner on an inconspicuous area first....

The older motors have more durable paint, but the new motors, not so much.
Do that on a new motor and you'll clean the paint right off.

Simple Green.  Seriously, the stuff is miraculous.  Crap I couldn't get off with dish soap or WD-40 just literally melted off using Simple Green.  Thorough rinsing is mandatory - it's apparently corrosive to some extent.

#1  I'd be very careful with the carb cleaner.
This stuff is pretty amazing.

to answer the prev question what hondabrite is, it's basically the same as s100.

My FAVORITE remedy is Go Jo hand cleaner and an old tooth brush. Read it on here long ago and it worked great for me  [thumbsup]
