Title: Lowside Crash..Pics of the Aprilia and gear
Post by: venomousr1993 on July 17, 2011, 05:40:59 PM
Below are a few pics of the Aprilia and my gear.   Although the gear and bike are tore up, I am suprisingly not upset at all.  I walked away without a scratch...just some bruises and sore muscles.

Anyway, I didn't have the best gear, but worked well and kept me safe.  The compression jacket under my leather jacket saved my right arm, back and shoulder.  My A-stars knee guards were ground down under my dirt riding pants and the boots got tore up pretty good too.

Not sure exactly what happened, but think either I reached the limit of the tires or my right footpeg caught the ground.  Felt like the front just washed out..let go immediately and tried to get out from under the bike as it was dragging me across the pavement...once clear it slid another 60-70 feet.

Minor damage...I will call AF1 for a new rear brake lever, right rearstay mount, peg, slider, and spring.  I already checked everything else on the bike out today, sanded and smoothed the cheesy plastic handguard, removed the swingarm spool.  Once fixed and I have new gear, it'll be rolling again.

Uggghhhhh!!!! Looks like you slid a good long ways. Good thing you didn't slide much further...doesn't look like the gear could have taken much more.

As before, glad you're ok. See you when you get running again.

Wow.  If I was whomever makes your sliders (and Alpinestars too) I'd send you free crap & sliders in exchange for using those pics as marketing.

Glad you're OK!

That popped seam is a bit skurry

First off, glad to hear that you are ok.

Sorry about your gear. But at least all your protective apparel did their jobs with flying colors. And looks like your investment in frame sliders just paid for themselves. Reading your description reminds me that there are a few pieces of safety gear that I need to purchase.

Nice bike. Thanks for sharing your experience.

R&G makes the frame sliders.  They were about 121.00 through AF1 Racing and the company is out of the UK where these bikes are more popular.  The jacket was a fleabay EXL jacket...def not high quality, but hense the reason I wear the full upper body compression suit under it....it used to fit me without the A-Stars jacket underneath when I was 240 lbs (now 190).  I have had the jacket for 5 years so I got every bit of the 120.00 I spent on it.

Boots...won't buy these again...no toe box protection.  Will look at something with more ankle and foot protection.
Gloves...Joe Rocket Supermoto gloves.  durable and have great protectio, but won't buy again since they are miserable on my hands
Pants...these were just dirt over the boot pants...sold my leather bottoms since they were xl and didn't fit me.
A-Stars knee/shin guards saved my knees.  The plastic got so hot they melted and had gravel stuck in them.

I experienced my first off in October. Wasn't going quite as fast as you, but slid/rolled/bounced down the road a good distance. As comparison I am still wearing the boots and jacket I was on that lucky day...

Sidi Vertigo boots - just put on new toe guards. I had the local leather guy fix my Tourmaster Coaster II jacket, which I wore on Sunday. I'll try to throw up some new pics for a side-by-side...
