So everyone knows that washington state is renown for getting to like 120 in the summer right...not..ha funny joke. Anyways I was riding to school today and my bike is touching almost hitting 200 when I'm riding which is kinda weird... I think, I'm no genius..so might as well ask. The fans behind the filter are not spinning or anything when I'm riding or when the bike is on...is this a problem? I just noticed this...
200 degrees is kind of low for your bike. The Gas powered turbines need to be atleast 900 degrees to produce any real power. And it has to be atleast 212degrees for the steam to build up.
Interesting... so I will probably never see the fans start up on my s4r? never knew that...
Which school are you attending?
AFAIK, the temperature display will read HOT (instead of a number) when it's getting up around the (too hot) limit - when that happens, turn it off.
The S4R has a largeish radiator so it may not need the fans all that much - and I think the fans come on when the water (as opposed to the oil) gets hot. (Although, I read somewhere (semi official) that liquid-cooled Duc superbikes 'normally' keep the oil in the 190F +/- range.)
Of course, you could let the bike run on the kickstand for a while and see how high the oil temp gets before the fans come on, or until the gauge reads HOT. [evil]
