Title: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: strat10 on July 25, 2011, 02:53:11 PM Rode from Huntington Beach to Laguna Seca for the Moto GP race this weekend. Left on Friday, came back on Sunday. I have to say the last 60 miles from San Louis Obispo to Montery is some of the best riding I have ever done! Two Twins kicking it down the Highway, my rear end still hurts a bit, but way worth it. i will stay over till Monday next time.

Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: elgallo73 on July 25, 2011, 03:27:12 PM Awesome photos, I grew up in that area (Los Osos, right next to Morro Bay). I've personally never done a motorcycle ride up the coast but many times in the car. You are very lucky to be able to live in that area, I know I could not afford a garbage can with a door on it there anymore...
Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: arai_speed on July 26, 2011, 09:15:36 AM I took this trip a few years ago and have really fond memories of the ride. Thanks for sharing!

Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: orangelion03 on July 26, 2011, 10:41:23 AM Was up that way a few weeks ago, just to ride up and down THE ONE!
By the way, I think the picture titled "Morrow Bay" is actually Cambria (Moonstone Beach)...a few dozen miles north of Morro Bay [thumbsup] Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: lawbreaker on July 26, 2011, 11:20:25 AM Next time try coming thru the 'long way"..... AMAZING roads !!! - but time consuming. We left Thursday and came back Monday
we did the 101 to 23... made our way to the 150 to 33 to the 58... From there we did some "G" roads ( G14/16 or something) and carved the backway into Carmel Valley. I never bother to look up our route but rather save that for someone else in the group. Incredible roads all over! I hope everyone had fun and got back safe and sound.. One in our group got nabbed by the CHP and won a speeding ticket for his efforts. Aside from that it was Good Times Fo' Sho' [thumbsup] Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: strat10 on July 26, 2011, 01:13:26 PM Quote By the way, I think the picture titled "Morrow Bay" is actually Cambria (Moonstone Beach)...a few dozen miles north of Morro Bay Thanks! Now that I think about it you are correct. I just took the "coastal access" road, it was beautiful down there! Quote Next time try coming thru the 'long way"..... Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: ab on July 26, 2011, 01:17:28 PM i was on highway 1 for the first time a week ago in LA area up during a visit and rode up to pepperdine university and way past it... I only wished I was on my bike. I dreamt I was on my bike. But I was on a fiat 500 which is next best thing IMHO. It is a dream trip that I hope I will do one day soon on bike. It's just too beautiful. You're lucky. Enjoy !

Don't listen to him. California is horrible and in no way a moto mecca. Stay away. Nothing to see here. Move along. ;D Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: strat10 on July 26, 2011, 01:59:17 PM I'm tempted to put on the mod hat and delete this whole thread. Don't listen to him. California is horrible and in no way a moto mecca. Stay away. Nothing to see here. Move along. ;D Well, to be fair I did fail to mention the horrible traffic headed home on the 101 from Santa Barbara to thousand Oaks. 60 miles of lane splitting is mentally draining! So yeah, California is Hours of drudgery followed by hours of beauty! Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: lawbreaker on July 26, 2011, 05:30:32 PM I must admit that while the 1 may not be the most exciting road... it's probably the most beautiful scenery in Cal [thumbsup]
Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: IZ on July 26, 2011, 05:46:49 PM Great pics!! [thumbsup] I road from Phoenix to Santa Barbara for Dimby this summer and had the chance to see part of that stretch. I'd do that ride everyday if I could!

Yeah, the G roads rock!! I prefer them to the coast during the winter. When I used to go to Seca for the bike races in the early 80s, we always made it a four day weekend. Next year, I'm hooking up with you guys! Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: lawbreaker on July 27, 2011, 06:21:58 AM .. Lemme know !!!
I honked when we rolled past your street on Thursday [Dolph] Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: Blackout on July 27, 2011, 06:53:58 AM Great roads. I rode from SLO to Laguna Seca back in 2004 for WSBK. I only had my Duc for about 3 months by then. I remember the ride back home being full of potholes though. Hope they've fixed them.
Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: strat10 on July 27, 2011, 07:17:35 AM Quote I remember the ride back home being full of potholes though. Hope they've fixed them. I got to say that the road over all was very nice. There are three traffic lights for one way traffic because of the construction. If you shoot to the front of those lights, it will save you a bunch of time. In the middle of the second light, they are building a bridge. Very impressive to see a huge crane hanging off the side of the mountain. Title: Re: highway 1 San Louis Obispo to Montery Post by: scooterd145 on July 27, 2011, 02:25:35 PM We (ducsrfun) rode the 1 up on Thursday and a modified "Lawbreaker" route home on Monday. Annual deal for us and SO MUCH freaking fun!
