I've been riding the bike down to the Deal's Gap area for the past few years with friends but things didn't work out to do it this year.
Still got my fix in as my wife and I decided to do a 3 day run down in my car so she could see where I've been going.
The mileage down was

The time in the car down was

and my fuel economy was (YAY Diesel!)

I went in via the "Dragon" and left through it as well.
Tuesday evening, going through, I had a Miata with a some obvious mods pull over as he was holding me up. [evil]

fun little pre-anniversary trip
Looks like you guys had a great time, thanks for sharing! [thumbsup] Nice mpg.
Helen is so....bizarre with all those Swiss Chalet architectural embellishments
that was a nice run....thanks for posting the pics
did you make it over to Dahlonega or up to Suches?
If you ever go back that way.... off Rte 129 before Blood Mountain around Vogel Park there's a turn-off to Helton Creek Road...
semi-graded 1 1/2 lane-ish dirt road that goes down forever into a hollow...when you get to the bottom there are some great falls

we were limited for time to do too much wandering, as it is I got a lot of sights in for her to see
I'll have to check out that dirt road you speak of next time I'm down there,
How steep is the dirt road? I'd hate to get stuck down there, it might be a trap.
I definitely had to bring her to Helen, it really is a little piece of the twilight zone.

Not that bad at all...a little rutted, and narrow if someone is coming back out...not crazy steep if you stay on the path...go off the road and you are tow-truck material...I've gone down it in a variety of 2 wheel drive cars...and back up too
