Hey guys,
I've been having a few problems with my 696 and wondered if anyone has the same trouble.
The air temp gauge is reading 50 when i first turn on the bike and 105F when i'm at a light. At first I thought this was engine temp, but the manuel says ambient air temp.
The rear brake is squealing when i use it.
I ALWAYS have to use fast idle to start the bike. Even when its over 90F outside.
These problems aren't a big deal but the bike is brand new and would like to get them taking care of while under warranty. Anyone else have these problems and know what to do to fix them.

The sensor is located between the cylinders, so the ambient reading is that pocket of air. Since the bike is under warranty you can have them check it.
The rear brake is squealing when i use it.
The common answer is don't use it :P Remove the pads, sand the glaze off and put a slight bevel on the top, bottom and leading edge, clean the rotor with brake cleaner and a Scotchbrite pad, install pads, pray to the brake gods and bed them in. Or, if the squeal is occasional and not too bad, live with it.
I ALWAYS have to use fast idle to start the bike. Even when its over 90F outside.
Normal

I know when I had my 696 the termi kit made a huge difference in how it started.
the rear brake squeal is a known problem on the 696's and if you mention it to your dealer they should change the pads to a less aggressive compound under warranty
how new is the bike? during the break in period i had one or two minor starting issues in cold weather on my 796 but once the break in period was over it hasnt happened again. but i also did install termi's/ecu so it might be attributed to that instead.
All normal... Don't worry
Follow all the suggestions above
Thanks guys. The bike only has 850 miles and I thought they would fix the problem at the first service. No luck. The real pain is the brake. I hate that.
The other problem is the monster sticker on the left tank is peeling and the right tank near the knees looks like the plastic has very fine cracks (like dry skin). The right tank also had a small faint scratch on the top. I pointed it out to the dealer before i brought it and thought it would buff out. I hope they take care of this under warranty I don't want a new bike with these problems.
Thanks again guys.

I had forgotten, my 796 also started really hard prior to break in, now its literally just bump the starter and it fires right up. As I recall, i had a little squeek from the back brake on the 796 too, but i got the 696 with 3000 miles on it so i never knew if it did it during break in or not..
