Just makes me very sad!
And a baby was born in the ensuing traffic snarl. Bike was some kind of dual sport looking thing with knobby tires.
Looks like a Yamaha Trail or MX bike to me. No headlamp and 100% dirt tires. News reports are inconsistent, though.
Sadly, I have a few guesses about the rest of this story...

Sucks for the rider, but he clearly was not supposed to be there... No lights? 5AM in the morning?
stolen bike?
looks like a TTR to me....thin fork legs...maybe a TTR125L ??....
probably doing the typical illegal boppin around on a dirtbike in the streets (riding around ,disregarding lights and doing wheelies and other goofyness) doin their thing like what happens in other parts of the city and Baltimore and the Police can't really pursue...so they just turn a blind eye and pick up the pieces after the fact when crap like this happens...
yes I am assuming the worst, but not without historical basis....

Yeah, lots of folks riding around Balto on street illegal dirt bikes and quads for a while. Looks like it's coming a bit more to DC
If they were emulating the Baltimore fashion, shall we say, they had zero gear on.
Yeah, you mean these guys:

Yes. BTW - NSFW audio on that clip, or just about any clip about the balto dirt bikes
Oops, my bad.

It does look like a TTR and I think 125 or 125L. I've been lead to believe that small dirt bikes (usually stolen) like these are quite popular with drug runners. Hard to imagine that a normal person decided to go dirt biking downtown and was unable to avoid a collision with a tractor trailer at 5am - definitely not your typical venue for a typical TTR rider (which is normally a very small adult or a kid looking to do some sedate trail riding in the woods - its not a fast bike).

nope...I know and used to pal around with a couple Baltimore City cops, and so I know it from reality.
I used to live right outside of B-More. I recognize some of those streets in the video. [laugh]
It's time for someone to hook up the snow plow and clean up the mean streets of Baltimore. Of course the city would have to upgrade the trucks with bullet proof glass and door panels.
I just don't believe what I saw, in the USA, in 2011! Just cannot believe it and coupled with some of the stuff I've seen over in PG county while supporting a client over there, I'm just shaking my head. I guess I'm just and old guy that's out of step. But, I'm not going to change, I'll do my illegal 10-20 over and maybe a quick pass here or there on the double yellow out on the backroads where hopefully nobody is looking or offended. I'll still make sure everyone who rides with me wears all the gear all the time, and when I see someone who does not understand the need for proper gear and/or riding technique in public where everyone can see - I'll let them know and maybe suggest a track day. - Gene
