I'm going to a Ducati event up in Philly and found what I think is a nice hotel on Delaware river out by Airport.
PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT
101 TAYLOR AVENUE ESSINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA
Anybody know that area? Assume it is an okay area, would not want to spoil a great ride and event by staying at a bad hotel. Thanks - Gene
may want to hit up the DEVAL board as that may be more in their territory of knowledge
Well, Brian, I was going to do that but there seems to be a bit of turmoil over on that board and an alternate site, so since I'm not in the know about all those guys/gals thought I would try our board since I know most of the friendly faces here. To cover myself I posted on the big list. Thanks - Gene
cool....just thought I pass my .02 in helpful suggestion...
my boss just recently had to go to a thing for work at the Hilton by the Philly Airport and said it was very nice...but I don't have any personal 1sthand experience.
Gene - I grew up in Phila. and my parents are still there. I'll hit my Dad up and ask him about that one. He often stays near the airport when they're headed out of town since they live on the other side of the city.
Hey, The DELVAL board is pretty dead.
As far as that area goes, I have never stayed there but that area is OK compared to some places like Northern Liberties, Fishtown and New Kensington.
on a scale of 1-10 of death-rich area I'd rate it a 4. So watch yo ass lol.
Leaving a bike outside at night though... I'd never advise that in Philly. It WILL be stolen.
What's the event if you don't mind me asking? I should know considering I live 20 minutes outside.
The event is http://simeonemuseum.org/events/2011-classic-motorcycles-at-the-simeone-museum (http://simeonemuseum.org/events/2011-classic-motorcycles-at-the-simeone-museum) Bunch of the guys that ride with me have some older ducs so we're doing a typical twolanefun wander through the countryside to get there, I'm taking the Paso, my Fiancee will drive the chase truck direct to hotel, she is from just north of Philly so she knows how to get there. Thanks for the tip I'll see if the hotel has security at night, Thanks
I'm not staying in Fishtown area, we are staying in Essington 14 miles south of Fishtown. - Gene

What happened to my post back to you. Hope this does not double post.
Okay, thanks for checking. Dressler says it's okay he lived up there in hotel for a year while supporting Boeing. He also told me about the place where the Stromboli was invented while looking for that I also saw that Revzilla is ~7 miles, this could turn out to be quite a trip, Hmmm maybe I'll leave checkbook at home. - Gene
My father (who is a very cautious person generally) says it's probably ok for a night or two. He said to just be very aware of where you're parking, etc. (all the stuff I know you know). He didn't know the specific hotel but thinks you're probably fine.
I realize that isn't the most helpful thing in the world - sorry, I tried.

Gee, that's encouraging...
Yeah real helpful too - not. I just spent some time talking to locals in that area and spent some time looking at crime stats and then had a discussion with the local LEO. I think you are blowing smoke at me but I'm not sure why. I'm guessing that on this local board there isn't a place/area you could mention where one of us could not give you the real lowdown. Anyway we'll give it a try and see what's up. I've survied a lot in my short time :) on this earth this will just be another one of those adventures. Thanks everyone. [beer] - Gene

Blowing smoke, really?

What??
I said it's not a bad area, sure there are worse places in philly, but it's philly man. Stay out of the ghetto and you're good..
It's like living at Temple as a student. You're OK during the day, but you will get make the beast with two backsing mugged 10 out of 10 times at night walking down diamond street.
Relax and have a good time.
Like I said you will be fine, probably.
It's just the city.
All was fine in that area, they did have some extra security rules in the place next door, assume that was to keep the wrong crowd from deciding it would be a good place to hang out. It was pretty much an industrial area, souht of there looked kinda rough. There were some better hotels over by Airport and closer to the Museum. - Gene
