Title: How many miles can i go whit one tank of gas?
Post by: ducatigirl100 on August 03, 2011, 05:50:01 PM
Hi guy's   :)

I was just wandering how many miles can you do whit a Monster 900cc  1995  ???  and when the gas indicator come up how may do i have left??

I posting the question because today I stopped for my usual "45 Miles " fill up ( just to make sure).  When I look in the tank I've noticed that it was only half empty ( I've been doing highway those last few days [Dolph])  ...  Since I'm planning on a first outing on my bike ..." how many miles can i do"  seams to be a relevant question.

when I've bought the bike they didn't give me a owner's manual   [thumbsdown]  so i don't  have the info

please  ;D

The one time I waited for that indicator light I was left stranded.    :P

What bike do you have?

My S4 (916cc) averages approx 110-120 miles but I fill up at the 100 mark just to be safe. YMMV.  [Dolph]

Reset the trip odometer every time you fill up so you know how far to go between fill ups.

varies, but you can figure it out hte fun way.

It depends on how lean or rich your bike runs really.

45 miles? your safe filling up every 100 miles minimum with the old steel tanks. they hold atleast 3.8gallons IIRC.

on my 1995 m900, i was doing about 150-160 highway miles before fill up. and around 100 miles city before fill up. i dint have a low gas meter so i had to wing it.

too bad my plastic tank S2R, (at 90mph cruising) requires fill up every 140 miles.

My bike gets as low as 35 in city driving and as high as 60 MPG highway cruising. But mine's an FI bike (944 w/ hi comp pistons and free flowing exhaust & intake)

Your mileage may vary (literally!)

for 100% city riding, i get ~25mpg. lol

I think most Monsters, the light comes on at 3 to 3.5 liters remaining (approximately). Definitely 3 liters for my '07 695.

I reset my tripmeter at fill-up and ride until the light comes on. I fill up as soon as possible and record the miles traveled, then divide by the number of gallons I just put in to get MPG. If you do this frequently, you'll get a pretty good average MPG.

Here's a link with some MPG ratings:
http://hallicino.hubpages.com/hub/Motorcycle-MPG-Guide-Ducati (http://hallicino.hubpages.com/hub/Motorcycle-MPG-Guide-Ducati)

It shows mine as getting 40-48MPG. Last fill up using super, I got 54 MPG and about 150 miles before the light came on. But this is a totally stock bike.

Best bet is to record your fuel consumption and miles traveled to computer you're own averages, as it will vary widely based on a number of factors.

1999 M900

I fuel up every 120 miles, and can still hear some sloshing around at that point, where I am usually putting ~3.5 gal in the tank. I'm guessing that I could go another 20-30 miles, but hopefully I don't have to find the limit  :P

Fueling up every 45 is overkill if your bike is running normally.

the milage you'll ge depends on how "spirited" you are with the throttle...

I noticed when I was hooliganing and stuff, I would get about 120-ish on my old 01 Monster 900....on a road trip rolling at general highway speeds for an even keel of time, I got as much as 155...

your milage may vary though!

I've got a Fuel Injected 900 and average 40mpg all around. That's a mix of city, highway and being bad.

carby 750, I typically get 140-160 a tank before I fuel up with the carb settings I've got.  I'd say you could probably go at least 120, probably more.

I legitimately got 207.3 miles on a tank in one ride in the Texas Hill Country, and that was not babying it at all, full throttle, the whole ride.   [thumbsup]  And I didn't run out either, I know, because I got a tank of gas for free for doing it  [Dolph]

but... avg seems to be about ~120ish miles

The guy I got my bike form told me that if I rely on that light, I'm going to end up pushing the bike to a gas station sooner or later. He did indeed speak the truth on that one.

I have a 1995 monster 900cc whit a metal tank ...  now i think I'm gonna go less to the gas station ...  ;D     I' thing I'll try fill ups at 50 milles, 60 milles and so on ....  I'm just lacking confidence and I don't want to be stranded somewere.  [Dolph]

but if I was stranded somewhere  I'm sure a  gentlemen would stop to help a blonde in distress...lol  ;D

50 and 60 miles is seriously too much.  If you do 100 miles before filling up, you'll still have a large margin without worry, seriously.  I will pay for your next tank of gas in your car (assuming you have one) if that ends up not being true at anytime.

I have a metal tank also, I start looking for a gas station when I hit 100 miles and start worrying at 110-120.

I reset my tach everytime I fill up (to the brim), and on average I get 40-45 MPG on my M750. This is mostly commuting but not much stop-and-go traffic, I usually refill between 140-160 miles.

My fuel light has long stopped working and I rely on the mileage to know when to fill. You can also get an idea of how much fuel you have in the tank by gently rocking the bike sideways, the noise and feel of gas sloshing in the tank will tell you how much is in there.

my 2009 696 would have the idiot light come on at about 120.  the 2011 796 comes on at about 110 (if i can keep my hand off the throttle) I have had the light come on at as little as 80 miles.  I pushed the 696 to 30 miles on the reserve counter...but i didnt have a good feeling about it.

Commuting, I get about 35-40 and fuel light comes on about 135.  Actually riding, even aggressively, I get around 45, and don't see the fuel light until I'm 145-150 miles.

Wow! 10% ethonol? I can probably get to near 180 under ideal conditions but I'd be pushing it (maybe literally).

Important point to OP - it doesn't matter how much your tank holds. Very important how much fuel you can use!

I gas up around 125. Have only seen the gas light on twice, both times around 130. I seem to consistently get between 40-45 mpg no matter how hard I flog it. I've never done a long trip on the highway/interstate though.

Yep, wasn't even all that slow of a tank (I put on about 196 of those miles and left her with the fuel light on [cheeky]).  Almost all commuting from annandale to/from DC + one run to leesburg for the duc experience thing.  Its been really hot lately and I think that helps mpgs quite a bit for several reasons.

Prior tank I think I re-fueled at 180-something (100% commuting miles) and calculated the mpg to be 60.7.

Both with 10% E fuel (or so the pump says, I certainly didn't do any sort of analysis of the fuel to verify).  I also haven't verified the odometer, but since the duc reads off the rear wheel rpm (I think?) and the rear tire is the stock size it shouldn't be wrong, right?

What's up with the paranoia about fuel lights?

The Duc makes bike #6 we've owned with EFI and a low fuel light and all have been dependable.

Granted we're only a few months and little over 1k miles on the Duc, but we run it to the light every tankfull...

My light always came on between 135 and 150.  Unless I was going someplace without gas stations I usually ran it up until the light came on.

Typically, unless you flog it and your bike is not modified with a different ecu/exhaust you should be able to do 100 miles easily without worrying. When you start getting more confidence, learn when your light turns on and how much gas you can put in. Most Monsters have 14-16 liter (total tanks) or 3.5-3.8 US gallons. In my 2009 696 I get 3 gallons on when the light turns on and I sit on the bike to keep it straight when filling up (you probably get another 500 ml of gas in that way). If I ride all in the city I usually get 120-130 miles before my light turns on; if on the highway, usually 150-160 miles.

For the guy with the 796 ABS, compared to your 2009 696 the ABS version has a smaller fuel tank by 0.2 gallons and it is a 796, so I would expect your range to be lower.

You guys are starting to make me think there is something wrong with my bike lol.  I always run over 200 miles on a tank before I fill up, the fuel light starts flickering about 210-215 for me, I think the farthest I've pushed is 220 miles.  I have a 2000 M900 and accelerate spiritedly but typically cruise at 2500-3000 rpm.

my 696 flickers around 195-200km
with my new exhaust, DP ECU and PC V Optimizers making everything richer, I don't screw with it and don't try to go more than 230km. but i bet I can make 240-250km maybe I'll bring a gas can one day and test it.

I'm sure if I rode more conservative (which is soooo hard with the new sounds) I could get a 250+km easily

Canadian answer..lol

14L plastic tank on an s2r 800,

light comes on after 10 L is consumed (so 4L left), and if that is highway km's, its averaged about 200km

I am getting about 20km/L of fuel... I always pull over and get gas as soon as the light comes on, so I dont know total consumption but it is estimated

if it is city mileage, im lucky to get 200 km out of a full tank. It actually kinda sucks

I run 91 octane fuel as our highest in 93 and contains ethanol, so id rather not use it.
