Someone backed (damn NYC drivers!!) in to my '07 695 and the kickstand got all bent.
I tried to replace it but stripped the tiny nut holding the cutoff switch. Decided to rip it off, install
an old sidestand and spliced the wires together (green to green/white. black by itself). The bike seems to start and ride ok.
My question is whether this is ok or will it harm the bike? If this is a simple fix, whats the point of the bypasses sold for this
and should i install one soon?
Thanks
Chris
The bypass is for folks who are using aftermarket levers or clutch masters that have no provision for actuation or mounting the interlock switch that allows you to start the bike while in gear *if* the clutch level is pulled.
The shunt you did won't do any harm to the bike... Well as long as you don't ride off with the side stand down that is. The bypass you've done just makes the bike *think* the side stand is always up.
This is what happens when you stupidly leave your kickstand down (and down have a kill switch)
NJMP Lightning crash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VkVLdTrk4w#)
Yep - and that *will* damage your bike.
cool, thank you.
guess this will be my mantra when gettin on ducduc: kickstand up. kickstand up. kickstand up.
I like my bypass personally. I saw what happened to someone after they forgot to put the kickstand up. Ouch!
