Title: seat adhesive?
Post by: SDkid on August 06, 2011, 09:46:35 PM
Since the temperature started warming up mid May/June, I have noticed my seat getting more and more sticky as the temperature rises.  There are tons of awkward and amusing comments to be made here, most of which I have probably thought of, but my question is if anyone has had a similar phenomenon on their seat.  I am talking the actual seating surface of the motorcycle is like an adhesive itself.  I have tried degreaser, soap and water, straight water, other cleaners as I detail my bike, but nothing changes.

Maybe its a performance idea from Ducati: like sticky tires, a sticky seat will keep a rider in place?  Is it supposed to be like this?

There was a thread about this a couple of years back.

IIRC, seats have a plastic film between the foam and the cover - it tears and and on a hot day some glue will 'melt' and leak through the cover.

It can be fixed, but it's often easier to buy another seat.

first we will assume that you aren't complaining about sticking flesh in direct contact with the seat    [laugh]

I see you have an 02 750, possibly the finish is worn off,

or if you aren't the original owner that someone along the way used some chemical on the seat that broke down its composition

being glued to the seat of a bike is NOT a good thing...not the way I ride at least

if it was a performance idea....well it was a pretty bad one

new seat or seat cover gets my vote

OK, i had a feeling it was likely a wear-and-tear thing.  Thanks for the info.

Check out www.luimoto.com (//http://) for replacement covers. They have some really nice options, it's not hard to replace.

Pick up a Nelson-rigg "bikini" bike cover.  They are small and thin enough to roll up and fit under the seat (that's where I put mine on my S2R) and block all the sunlight.  They also help with rain to keep it off the cockpit and seat, but the main use for me is to keep my balls from baking when I get on the bike.
