Is it possible to replace an S2R 800 clutch basket with the 620 basket? Do those cush springs in the S2R basket server any real purpose?
As long as the 620 donor had the APTC clutch - 2005 and on - it should be the same part.
Which springs are your referring to as cush springs?
Here's a picture that Oil Eater posted some time ago of the back of the basket which shows the springs.

That's too bad that the 2004 basket won't work. I was hoping I could buy this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Clutch-Basket-plate-bearing-2004-Ducati-Monster-620-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c1db8e36bQQitemZ120757740395QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Clutch-Basket-plate-bearing-2004-Ducati-Monster-620-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c1db8e36bQQitemZ120757740395QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)
I'm not sure when they phased in the APTC for the 620. I know it was on the 2005+ models 100%, but prior to that I'm IZ_. SO you'd need to run that down. I do know that your bike has the APTC clutch, so that'll be important.
Hmm - I'm not expert on those springs... but I have a feeling they are they for some good reason and probably directly impact the APTC action.
I'm sure you could convert the clutch from you bike to a non APTC wet version but it would require a number of additional parts beyond a new basket
non-APTC clutches are available for ~$100 used on fleabay. As many will tell you, bits are not interchangeable between APTC and "regular" style, but the whole shebang is for wet clutches [thumbsup].
