Title: Places to stay Post by: sisca77 on August 08, 2011, 11:47:53 AM Looking to go to SF in November, around Thanksgiving time. Will go with the whole family, so hoping to get some recommendations on where to stay. Preferably a vacation rental or a house rental that can accommodate 3 adults and 2 kids. Also hoping to get some awesome places to eat and to do in SF. Thanks. ;D
Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: desmoquattro on August 08, 2011, 11:53:45 AM I hear Spidey lets entire families of strangers stay in his garage ;D
As for fun & food, post up the dates you're going to be here. We're usually up for an impromptu Zeitgeist night. And be sure to check out the local resources thread: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=562.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=562.0) It's a little moto-focused, but should be helpful...especially the bike rental part ;D Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: sisca77 on August 08, 2011, 12:34:13 PM Hmmm....will wait the invite from Spidey I guess... 8). Anyway, we're thinking of leaving Phoenix (AZ) on the 24th of November and stay in SF maybe 7 nights.
Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: mostrobelle on August 08, 2011, 03:46:44 PM Are you set on SF proper? I'm not terribly impressed with any of the hotels in town, and the ones that are good are outrageously expensive. I'd stay up North and drive into SF if you must. But I think those are a pretty penny too.

Probably looking at Muir Beach area??
Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: desmoquattro on August 09, 2011, 05:57:48 AM Thanks for the inputs. Browsing the VRBO. Probably looking at Muir Beach area?? Muir Beach is outside of San Francisco. It's gorgeous, but will likely be a long drive into the city. And if you don't have a bike, the roads outside your front door will be excruciatingly frustrating :) One thing to keep in mind when choosing a place to stay is transport. San Francisco is not the most car-friendly city (with good reason). If you're in a place where you can walk, cab, bus, or BART to your destinations of interest you'll be better off. Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: sisca77 on August 09, 2011, 08:54:10 AM Thanks, Desmoquattro. I think I might find a place with reasonable price on Geary Blvd. Lolos like it's pretty close to many places of interest. Or is it not???
Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: desmoquattro on August 09, 2011, 09:25:40 AM Thanks, Desmoquattro. I think I might find a place with reasonable price on Geary Blvd. Lolos like it's pretty close to many places of interest. Or is it not??? Depends on where on Geary it is. Geary goes from one side of the city to the other. There's decent transit along Geary. It's a busy street, and runs through several neighborhoods...from Downtown (offices) to Union Square (shopping) to the Tenderloin (crackheads and great dive places to eat) to the sunset (almost suburban, heavily Asian influenced). Your best approach is probably to figure out what you want to see and do, then choose a location based on that no? Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: sisca77 on August 09, 2011, 09:46:22 AM The add says that it's located in Richmond/Seacliff area. We'll most likely hit the usual tourist places. Will definitely visit Muir Park. Also will be using yelp for places to eat.

Quite a streetcar ride in to the touristy spots, but likely easier to park a car when you're at the house. Title: Re: Places to stay Post by: sisca77 on August 09, 2011, 12:42:52 PM Ok, I think that would be okay since I heard it's kinda hard to get around SF downtown by car anyway. Thank you.

No worries. That said, the train ride from there to downtown is approximately 45 minutes.
