Title: Monster S2R 800 - Fuel Line Hose Size
Post by: EEL on August 19, 2011, 10:35:12 AM
I'm doing cleanout of the fuel injection system as part of my 30k servicing. I want to replace the fuel lines and sonic clean the injectors. I've already done the filter in the tank.

Question:

Whats the fuel line sizing? Since this is a pressurized line I want to ensure I maintain the proper size so I dont have issues with flow out of the injectors.

Injectors are coming off this weekend and being shipped out for ultrasonic cleaning. So I've got a week to find and cut some new hose connections.

Thanks!

5/16 will work fine

Make sure you use SAE 30R10 (submersible) fuel hose.  One hose is 1/4 inch, which seems unobtanium in the US, but as Dan said, 5/16 will work.

ok...here's a stupid question - WHY?

SAE 30R10 is used for crazy marine applications. I promise I wont take my bike swimming in the ocean or a vat of gasoline.

I'm not touching the piping inside the tank BTW. I'm just replacing from the connectors outside the tank to the injector "rail" (if you want to call it that) and back.

The reason I ask is SAE 30R10 is like 20 -30 bucks a foot. Seems like extreme overkill as the normal fuel hoses I've found are rated to 180 working PSI and 300 degrees F and I can get them in the unobtanium 1/4" from my local auto store.

Please explain. If there's a good reason for this requirement I want to know.

The SAE 30R10 is submersible, for inside the tank.  Any good fuel line will work for the outside plumbing

As Dan said, the 30R10 rated hose is for the inside of the tank.

IIRC, the standard 'fuel injection' rated hose is 30R9, available at most any auto parts store.

Are you talking internal diameter or external diameter?

Internal.  I've used Tygon in the tank with no issues yet, and Viton is rated for immersion and might be easier/cheaper to get.

The reason is I thought you were changing the lines in the tank.  30R9 is fine.

Which Tygon are you using?

Im sure it works but I think the reinforced fuel line will be stiffer. Not sure how much if any pressure loss you'll have from the tygon since it tends to flex a bit more.
