Was out in alexandria couple nights ago for a work networking deal. Low gas warning comes on as I leave around 9ish.. stop by the first gas station I see, think it might have been a exxon. Fill up and have no issues the rest of the way home. Next day no issues in the morning, but was leaving work in the afternoon to go grab some coffee and the bike stutters and rpm's go way down. Engine dies on me. siphoned out the fuel and refilled at my usual gas station and everything is all good. im assuming that nasty additives/water were the cause. anyone have issues with different gas stations?
Do you stick to any particular ones in town?
I've never had a problem with fuel anywhere in NoVA. Also, given how much you rode before you had a problem, I think it very unlikely that your issues were related to fuel quality.

I didnt have any problems on the way home(~5 miles) save some popping which maybe have been an indication of the bike running lean. correct me if Im wrong.. doesnt water and gas separate when left to sit? If thats the case.. water which is denser should separate to the lower layer. If so, I should have had issues in the morning. did have some popping on the way to work (less than 2 miles). But after work, i pulled out of the lot and bike dies.. push it over to the curb and turn it off and let it sit for a while and it starts up after one fail. Maybe I mixed the gas in the tank? Ride over to gas station and siphon out fuel and refill with gas, and no popping and it runs fine. Jst my theory.
Maybe its the fuel pump?
water and gas separate but that won't happen super fast
if it had already separated when you pumped it, then it would have been all water (from the bottom of the tank) and your bike wouldn't have run at all
it's possible you had some residual moisture in your tank and it worked its way into the pump

Could be the battery... Fuel Injected bikes get fussy when the battery voltage gets low.

So.. it happened again today. Not the fuel. The battery is new -- so not the battery. Im thinking fuel pump/line? Any ideas for diagnostics?
I think the following pretty much covers it all.
1. dirty fuel filter
2. dirty injectors
3. malfunctioning fuel pump
4. wiring (or sensor - air, labda, whatever) issue that affects the two above.
Add fuel tank vent to that - if air can't get in the tank as fuel is used up it becomes difficult to use up more fuel.
