Title: Would you buy this bike?
Post by: The ModFather on August 20, 2011, 06:45:23 PM
Looking for some advice from the knowledgable forum members here. I have an opportunity to buy a 2002 Monster 900cc with tail chop and Termi exhaust and 13K miles on it for $1800. Supposedly in good condition. Does this sound like a deal I should take? I already have an 05 Monster 620 with 7K miles on it but this looked like a fun project bike that I could play with paint and mods etc. on. My question is this... is this bike about to start having all kinds of problems due to age/miles. Am I just buying a headache that is gonna be a money pit to keep running? Am I better off keeping the money and modding my monster until I buy a 2012 1100 Evo next year? Thoughts?

Sounds like a good deal to me.

for that low price i wouldn't worry.  you could always sell it again and get you money back.

Have you laid eyes on the bike?

Without knowing more info., the price sounds TGTBT. Is the title clear? Rebuilt?

If it's a legit deal and the bike is in decent shape it certainly sounds like a heck of a deal.

I have never heard of the older monsters having any particular issues that should be concerning to you.

Only question you should ask yourself first is:
Why do you want 2 same body style Monsters? Seems a bit redundant.

Not after you mod the ever living crap out of one. ;D

1800 is too good to be true. engine and exhaust alone should be worth that much.

Also, if the bike does turn out to really exist, be in good shape, and be on sale for $1800 make sure you can see paperwork and run the VIN by the PD/DMV. You don't want a nasty surprise (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=23313.0).

^this + contacting dealers/service shops to see its service record.

not entirely true. i bought my 95 m900(clean title) with slip-ons, DP dash w/tach, and FCR's for $1450. the guy threw threw the bike cover in for free.

That's a sweet deal.

that is also a stupid good deal, but 1800 for an 02 900ie seems low.  my employee pricing for an 02 750 bone stock and in need of a ton of maintenance (old tires, belts, etc) was 2800$ and thats wholesale.
