Watching the news and it looks like the first hurricane of the season is slamming into town pretty quickly. Is it abandon all hope or is it, go on vacation and just enjoy the experience??
From what I've seen of the storm track Florida will be on the "clean" side of the storm and the storm will be mostly offshore, so I'd say go. Depending on how far off shore the center is the weather there could actually be pretty darn clear. Surf on the coast will probably be higher and overall winds will probably be higher as all the air tries to head for the low pressure region.
One really only has to worry about hurricanes if they'll be in the center or on the East side of rotation as that's were all the rain and wind are located.
At the current track, it might have tropical storm impact on the east coast. No big deal. Orlando should be fine.
No biggie! Have fun if something does happen, at least you could say you were there! ;)
Stay home
No of course not. Be worried about the earthquake instead.
Looks like Florida is the safest place on the east coast from the hurricane
get a poncho, some good rope, and a helmet with visor.
make a harness out of the rope and tie it off somewhere good outside.
when the wind starts blowing put on the poncho and the helmet and rope.
JUMP!
F that!! Use the rope and pancho to make a sail then tie it to the handle bars of a bicycle. Using the helmet is optional.
So, how was the Orlando trip?
Sitting I lobby now waiting on car to pick us up. Orlando was amazing. Universal studios was awesome. The hotel looked beautiful but was total shit. Stay away from the portofino bay hotel. We paid extra for a view, and got a huge bushy tree flush against the window. The staff was rude, and the room had old dirty socks and Cheerios in it. Not to mention the $10 per day per device wifi charge. Awesome super car rally in the bay while we were here, but not enough pluses for me to ever stay here again. Then the staff was rude when I pointed out some of the flaws. Loewes Portofino Bay two thumbs down. [thumbsdown]
I'll be in Orlando this weekend, but staying at Port Orleans. I'll let you know if it's worth it.
Do let us know, my wife is really wanting to go to Universal for the Harry Potter section and we need a decent but not expensive place to stay.
JM
I-Drive is next to Universal and it has a plexora of good, but inexpensive hotels. Port Orleans is a Disney hotel. As a Florida resident I get a discount, but it's not what I would call cheap. Disney does offer "value" hotels that are good, especially for the kids, since they have a food court on site and the pools are awesome.
BTW, if you're a Harry Potter fan, that section of Islands of Adventure is awesome! It does get super crowded. When I went, there was a line to get into the stores!!! I have never seen such a thing in any Orlando park.

Harry Potter was amazing and worth all of it. The only plus side to the Universal hotels was the room key worked as a line cut pass. (Similar to Disneys express pass.)

We did our honeymoon at Port Orleans, and it was awesome. And the beignets from the food courts count as breakfast [thumbsup]
Portofino Bay saw my complaints and credited me two of my seven days. ;D

It was nice. I can see why you would stay there for the honeymoon. The pool was cool for the kids. The room kept the theme, but no wi-fi in sight. I understand that Disney simply wants ou out of your room spending money, but they could have setup a hotspot in the lobby at least. Like always, friendly staff and very clean facilities. I didn't get to walk around much, but the little I saw was beautiful. If you can handle the prize, then it's worth staying here.
