Sounds like the world is about to end (again) on the East Coast of the US.... :o I've already received 4 "work" emails about preparedness 'n stuff. However not one of them mentions the possiblility of the guvmint being closed on Monday >:(
My preparations involve figuring out ways to keep the wife from freaking out: "no, we don't need to hard boil all the eggs to keep them from going bad when we loose power", "yes, we have enough water to cross the desert by foot", "yes, we have enough batteries and candles", "no, let's park the car as far from trees as possible".... turn out the only thing we were out of were condoms, but as long as I can play Xbox we wont need them.... [laugh]
Jokes aside I hope everyone is prepared and no-one will have any problem. Oh, and I found this video of Irene from the ISS: impressive!

Personally, I'm planning to go riding so I can get a shirt that says:
I RODE IRENE!!!
[evil]
Bike should be okay, it's out in the brick shed, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do about my car. It's parked right under a tree. Not a good idea...
My bike and car are all in an underground parking garage, so that's all I needed to be worried about. I have a buddy who keeps his SV outside though. I told him that's probably not a good idea this weekend.

Hide yo bikes, Hide yo cars, Irene is blowing errbody!
I've got plenty of ammo. If things get bad, I'll survive off the supplies my neighbors bought.

And when those run out, you can survive off your neighbors! [evil] [laugh]
I picked up two boxes of 3" saboted 12g slugs, and my generator started. Cows out back if need be.

I can neither confirm nor deny any instance of those thoughts crossing my mind...

I don't generally hoard things, but my friends at Georgia Arms have some good bargains on canned heat: http://georgia-arms.com/bulkquantityammunition-cannedheat-1.aspx, (http://georgia-arms.com/bulkquantityammunition-cannedheat-1.aspx,) so I don't think I'll have problems either. ;D

I prepared by going to Indy for the GP. No Irene here. Did sit next to the table of umbrella girl "talent" this evening. Freakin' hilarious. High maintenance x 18. Lots of CLS.
Plenty of .45 auto for the glock, shells for the shot gun and 7.62 for the fun gun!! smoke grenades for fun. Two huge oak trees that hang over the house here...thats my only worry

Haha!
His bike should be fine as long as he doesn't cover it. Mine will be outside 'cause the shed is full of other crap that's more likely to go airborne. It's lodged between the house and the junky old Saab so it won't tip over.
Damn chestnut oaks better keep it together, though...

Pics or it didn't happen! :P
I've got room for maybe two more bikes in my garage if anybody wants/needs to park theirs away from the storm.

I have my neighbors 2 harleys, another Triumph and 2 dirtbikes in my garage in addition to the Drag truck, ape and Duc.
Can fit about 3 more if anyone else needs a safe place.
Take heart MoCo! Pepco is ready!

Probably gonna be a few days before you can make it through!
Damn!! Glad I decided against doing the loop. Bell Branch was bad enough, but at least it wasn't under water.
^^^ X2 on holey flooded roads. Was up at the Yankees/Orioles game today and the wind was ripping hard. Hopefully it cleans up soon.
Jeebus... here I was thinking this was nothing compared to Isabel. I suppose the low-lying areas get facked regardless. It'll be a nearly a week before things are back to normal out there.
I got out for a few hours this afternoon. Went northwest towards Great Falls. No standing water, but enough downed trees to make a man pious. Overall I think we made out well given the potential of Irene.
No drama at my place, just a bit of rain I guess. Power went out for a while yesterday. Trees did come down at a couple hapless friends' houses so I went and cut them up for them, but mostly just relaxed and slept in over the weekend -- its been a very long couple of months at work so the R&R was quite welcome.
Still no power at my place, but not that worried other than having to toss some groceries most likely. Trees dropped around the house but no real damage from them. I went around the neighborhood cutting up trees, so I am set for camp fire wood for a while :)
I am amazed that a) my basement did not flood and b) Pepco actually got the power back on before I got home from Indy. This was a block away:
I'll bet that's one guy happy the tree went south instead of north.
So for once, Pepco was on the ball. Driving out to Indy I don't know how many line-trucks and what not passed us going in the other direction.
Watched the start of the MotoGP from right at start/finish - so like 15 or 20 ft away from Rossi, etc. Those things are freakin' loud!
My basement TRIED to flood.
The power went out around 2-3am which of course turned my sump pump into a boat anchor. I had set my phone alarm to go off every hour to make sure the power was on, so when it went off at 3am and my regular alarm clock was kaput, I ran down to check the basement. I had about a five foot radius around the sump that was submerged, and my basement is unfinished slab so that's nothing to worry about. Got a five gallon bucket to bail with and got it down to the water line. Check it every hour after that and it didn't rise again.
Hasn't tried to rise since then, would be just neat-o to get power back, maybe BG&E can take some notes from Pepco on this one. Next house mod is a battery backup for the sump.
