Hey guys! first post. Pretty new owner, got bike about 2 months ago. Love it, ride it every day, etc.
Bike: 2001 M750 dark
Miles: 26k
Welp, got sick of speeding cameras in Baltimore so I worked on creating my own "stealth" plate setup. Had to rewire my plate lights and unfortunately I rushed through it a little bit.. Still new to riding and absolutely obsessed. Everything worked fine. Road for 3+ hours which included turning the bike on and off about 5 times.
The next morning I started the bike up for work and shortly after starting my gauge console (excuse my lack of proper terms) lost power, tach no longer works, and blinkers do not work. One of the 7.5 "heater" fuses was blown. I'm waiting on 7.5 amp fuses I ordered since I couldn't find them in a shop around here but I'm confused as the headlight and brake light work but the blinkers don't... aren't they on the same fuse?
I'm assuming the fuse blew because of improper wiring which I've already disassembled. Is the signal issue just a coincidental malfunction or does it sound like it could be related? Also, does anybody know if the fuse replacement could possibly fix the signals/tach or should I be troubleshooting something different while I wait on the fuse arrival?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm still riding it as I don't really NEED the tach... but have no signals and night time riding have to keep hitting brakes so people can see me.. not too safe. Also, I'd love to learn everything about the bike as far as how everything works together but unfortunately I do not at this time, so please dumb down your explanations if you don't mind :)
Thanks,
Dan
I'm in Parkville, might be able to put an eye on it this evening if you can head up my way. Also, join the Baltimore Area Ducati Facebook group if you bookface. We organize rides fairly regularly and garage days to learn how to do certain mods.

Wow, that'd be AWESOME. Request sent to join duc group, I'll PM you about details.
Don't forget CAM which includes Balto and Wash as well

- Sounds like you've shorted something or disconnected a ground. Do you have the wiring diagram?

Thanks for the idea Panda, and the CAM link. Unfortunately I don't currently have the diagram. I'm still waiting on a service manual I bought on Ebay for a 2001 600. Should be the same for the most part I'd assume. The guy neglected to mention in his auction that the only 2001 750 manuals he had were in German and French... ha.
I'll try to follow wires around, do you know if both the signals and the tach share the same ground?
Here's a diagram for a 900. It *may* help. But the 900 was injected at this point, so there will be some significant differences

Though it's not the greatest book ever, the Haynes manuals for Monsters do have very nice, color wiring diagrams.
Here's the manual for your bike: http://www.4shared.com/document/X3idlLRh/M600_750_900_2001_it_en_fr_de.html (http://www.4shared.com/document/X3idlLRh/M600_750_900_2001_it_en_fr_de.html)
That has the wiring diagram and key, just scroll through to the English pages, the wiring diagram is on the last few pages.
ok cool, thanks a lot guys. I'll try to figure out which wires to look for that wouldn't be affected by the blown fuse and will go from there. I don't have much experience looking at wiring diagrams but it seems like something I can figure out. If not I'll drop a line to get some guidance.
The fuel injected bikes and the carbed bikes have major differences in wiring. You will find a wiring diagram and fuse labeling in the back of the owner's manual that can be downloaded here:
http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do (http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do)
The fuse for the directionals is the same as the fuse for the instruments. Brake is the same fuse as horn. Headlight is a separate fuse. Check fuses for continuity with an ohmmeter, voltmeter or test light. 7.5 amp fuses can be bought at any auto parts store that handles foreign car parts.
The manual I linked to was downloaded from that site, so if you grabbed that you have the correct one for a 2001 carbed 750.
Artful did provide me with the correct manual. Thanks Howie your fuse notes did help in that it might just be a fuse issue which I'm hoping is the case. I had previously checked autozone, etc. but made a few calls after your response and found that baynesville (Ted I'm sure you're familiar with the place) does indeed have the mini 7.5amp blades in stock, good to know. I'll be cruising by there in an hour or so and hopefully that's the fix.
FUSE! woohoo. and during my initial digging I got an answer for my constantly on gas light, win!
Thanks to all for the ideas and help, and I also got to see Artful's nice bike in person.
D
Glad to hear the fix was something as simple as a fuse [thumbsup] Thanks for the help rolling the 996 into Patrick's truck.
