My wife and I along with her Aunt (Chef Rusty Evers) are in the process of opening a New Orleans style food carryout. It will also have a small retail shop. In addition to this we are going to have drop off/ pick up type catering. After the meeting with the bank they said that our business plan was so good, that they cant wait to come eat at our soon to be open restaurant. We are working on getting a SBA loan this week. If all goes well we could be open by November 1st.
Sweet!! Congrats man! Do this near the district so we can all come and partake in your culinary goodness.
The first one will open up near Ft Meade MD. We are looking for a location for the second one. We are looking in Annapolis, Ellicott City or Chevy Chase. This could be a destination on a Sat group ride. I will have to offer the "Ducati Discount".
Of the spots you listed, I would say Chevy Chase. Lots of superfluous income walking around there, and you should be able to capitalize on the fact that you're close to the District NW.

Tru dat, I live there! ;D
But at the same time one of the new restaurants that closed up after maybe less than 2 years. Don't know why but it never seemed to get much traffic... ???
in Chevy Chase would compete with one of my fave Cajun joints in Bethesda, "Lousiana Kitchen" which I have had a good standing relationship with those guys for many years....
personally...if the rent wasn't so high, I think you'de have a better go of it in Rockville (Town Center)or certain specific parts of Gaithersburg(like Kentlands)...but in MoCo the bigger fret would be if you end up with the type of place that will serve any kind of alchohol and dealing with the liquor board and getting a liscence.
in any way, I love Cajun food and wish you good luck and I look forward to having another alternative for getting some good Ettouffe and some gator or catfish beignets!!!
LOVE Cajun food. Had my birthday party at Louisiana Kitchen this year (Thanks Zooom).
Chevy Chase is definitely going to be high rent. Not sure what Rockville Town Center rents are like but that area is PACKED on the weekends and has a decent variety of places. Would love to have you up by us in the Gaithersburg area, but we'll travel for good Cajun! [thumbsup]
FWIW I don't know of any cajun food within walking distance of 17th & K in DC and food prices generally in this area are pretty steep. A basic sandwich can't be had for <$7 really. Not a big weekend/dinner crowd, but a ton of hungry lawyers and such around lunchtime.
I agree, there is always room for growth in the K street area with so many workers. There is a cajun spot that just opened on H Street called TruOrleans. I haven't tried it yet, but it hasn't been getting good reviews.

Depending on how far you're willing to walk... Bayou on Penn/25th. Great food. Not-so-great waitstaff. Only been for lunch and happy hour.

FINALLY someone opens a good restaurant near me instead of down with the gubmint. I work in Columbia so not far from Meade at all. Let me know when you're open and I'll organize a group dinner there with the Baltimore Area Ducati group (and any of you dirty southerners that feel like slumming it).
Congrats bro...
+1 for the roving food truck! I needs a good oyster Po Boy!

Me <3 the food truck thing, I don't care how trendy it is. If you work in SS there's an Indian food "truck" (never actually moves) at the corner of Colesville & Georgia and a fish/crab truck is there too occasionally.
We will not be getting a truck. We may get a trailer though. It would be for fairs and festivals. Ill keep you all posted on our progress.
