Title: bolts for risers
Post by: ffbaseball46 on September 01, 2011, 05:29:30 PM
I could use a some help  to a question if any one knows.

I have risers for a 750m 1999, 1.25 inches
I will need new bolts to mount the risers, The ones they supplied are too short.

What type or grade of bolts do I need to find.

You're talking about the handlebar clamp risers, right?  IIRC, they're M10x1.5 socket head cap screws.  EDIT: I didn't remember correctly.  It turns out that the stock bolts (at least for my 2000 M750) are M8x1.25, 90mm length socket head cap screws.  Really sorry for the bad info! I know it's been a while since this post, but I didn't want to leave the wrong size up there for someone to search for Grade 8 is a standard for SAE sizes (English); since this is a metric fastener, you won't have the option of grade 8. You could go with grade 12.9, which is the highest grade, but I'm sure that 8.8 or even stainless would also work. These are hard to find locally  (at least they were for me).  I'd say your best bet is Fastenal or ordering online at McMaster Carr. BTW, don't get a black oxide finish on it; get zinc coated or chrome or a stainless steel bolt or something, because I got a black oxide 12.9 and a month later it's rusting and looks crappy.  I'm probably going to replace the one's that I got with stainless steel ones when I get around to it.

Don't use black oxide.

Stainless is the way to go.

I think that Grade 12.9 is a little overkill for that application but the yellow zinc coating could look neat.
