We've been having more wildfires here in north Texas. I just got back after being evacuated for the second time this year. The hill next to us is still smoldering, but I got in before they reopened the area because I work for the state. Got up this morning and I could see little red glowing spots over there still :o

you had me confused...I didn't think I was in the video at all. Then I remembered that there are pictures of me all over my FB profile [laugh]
I have a ton of photos from when it was burning like crazy the previous couple days. I just have to get my camera back. We bounced from place to place for a couple days, and I left my camera at my parents house in Waco (3 hours away).
I'll get them posted (probably on flickr), then I'll throw up a link to them...they're probably better than the cell phone video
LeP..that's no good. We always worried about wildfires too when we lived up in Flagstaff. Sucks having to look at the charred woods but better than having your house go up in flames too.
Possum Kingdom Lake area has just been hammered by wildfires this year. A couple of times. Thousands of acres and hundreds of homes. A friend of ours lost his home and his in laws home in the first round of fires earlier this summer. Lost it all. All of Texas and parts of NM and OK are in the worst drought in decades. My property in east TX is just as dry as my buddy's ranch in west TX. Got back from dove hunting yesterday afternoon from his place and we didn't dare park a tractor or truck in tall dry grass or even smoke a cigar! It's super bad. It's like the whole state could burst into flames at any moment. [bang] Hope things get under control soon in the PK Lake area. [thumbsup]
Too bad we aren't going to get any rain from tropical storm Lee. We're getting a "cold front" [roll] that will knock the temps down but the blowing winds that will bring in the front will just make the fire danger level go up. Can't win for losing. :P

AZ is just as dry.
It always amazing me too at the stupidity of smokers throwing still-lit cigarettes out car window when "fire danger EXTREMELY HIGH" road signs are clearly posted.

75% contained as of this morning. They jumped on this a lot faster than the spring fires...well that, and we have forestry service people that have been living out of hotels in Mineral Wells since the spring, just incase.
Sorry to hear about your friend's place. We've gotten lucky twice now. The fires back in April burnt right up to the edge of the property we live, but firefighters stopped it at the road. Luckily it was a pasture so the flames had shrunk down enough to stop.
This time it burnt down the hillside next to us, but the aircraft got it undercontrol before it crossed the river. I'm still not sure how the stopped it there. The flames were crazy when I was leaving...I was sure it was going to cross.
I'm thinking all of use out here at the lake need to pitch in and buy a helo with a water bucket on the bottom to keep at the airport [laugh]
as you were saying...the rest of the state is just as bad...I'm not sure why we've had such bad luck. I think it might come down to people not being as careful as they should.

That drives me NUTS!
Youtube it..
Saw on the DFW TV news that the fire(s) were starting to get more under control. They have those choppers and planes dropping water like crazy. Probably dropped the lake level of Possum Kingdom by 5 feet! [laugh] I mentioned my friend losing their home earlier this summer but I think you are right, it was late spring. Just hope today's arrival of the cold front doesn't knock the fire containment progress into reverse. Just took the pup for a walk and you can already feel the stiff winds picking up out of the north.
Glad you dodged two bullets with the fires. [thumbsup] Oh well, end of weather/wildfire thread jack. Back to short video.
