Title: No Spark. Need help
Post by: MikeZ on September 04, 2011, 01:20:43 PM
'03 Monster 1000Sie
I have no spark.
Gauges sweep normally when I turn the key.
Fuel pump whirls up as normal.
Starter spins everything.
Plenty of gas and pump works.
All wires and plugs appear tight.
Not sure where else to look.
I have taken apart and replaced many parts of the bike but my diagnostic ability is lacking.
Anyone make suggestions about what/where to check next?
Thanks for the help

Some Ducatis kill the fuel with the kill switch and some cut ignition.

Check the killswitch.

All I got.

Are you sure you have no spark?

Kill switch kills everything so that's not it.

I pulled a plug and couldn't get it to spark on the engine case while trying to start the bike so I am pretty sure there's no spark.

I had a problem with the exact same symptoms this weekend ('03 M800).  The crank position sensor gap was a little on the big side, so I made a new shim, and that seemed to fix the problem.
