Title: black out?
Post by: uglyducky on September 04, 2011, 06:11:20 PM
can any of you fancy photoshop dudes throw a coat of black on these fork tubes and side engine cases?  i'm 99% certain i hate the red/gold combo and wanna have a look before i pull the ano trigger and want a lil more black on the side of the bike.    [Dolph]

No need to powder coat the engine side covers,
but maybe a black clutch cover and oil cooler 'frame'.....

Black fork?  YES!!!!

ya, i may anodize another clutch cover laying around but i don't have the heart to deface that lovely cycle cat piece of art on there right now.  rad and oil cooler are both getting the blackness as well.  i love the gold ohlins on black bikes and can live with them on red but they have always struck me as strange on the pearl.  and, truth be told, i'm in love with the pearl after being extremely ambivalent about the color when i bought it a month or so ago.  we bonded on that road trip these pics were taken on [wine]

Tell you the truth, Ohlins gold is more or less a badge of honor.  I wouldn't anodize, paint or permanently cover them.

HOWEVER.

I know what you mean about the gold on pearl, red etc.  If I were you, I'd try vinyl wrap.  Lots of threads here about it, and from the bikes I've seen, it looks fantastic.  Good outdoor satin vinyl is not only cheaper, less hassle but is removable if you ever decide to sell the bike.  AND it basically protects the original surface of the Ohlins legs.

I don't see any downside.  Plus, if you mess it up, you can start over, change colors.  Lots more flexibility.

hmmmm, not a terrible idea . . . but i've never had a problem selling my bikes and i don't really factor resale into modification.  i just go buck wild and hope the next guy gets it (if i ever sell).  the gold and red is really what turns my tummy.  just looks funky to me.

but i will marinate on the vinyl idea

Me (at full speed down the front straight). Haha. All the action shots I've found are protected, can't DL or link to them.

But here's your proof (til I get the video together)!

I would love a set of Ohlins forks but I agree with UglyDucky that Gold doesnt work with the Red and White. I say you should definitely paint them black.
