Other than the softer compound on the edges, what differences are there between these two tires? Different profiles, perhaps? Or just a cost thing?

2cts are 2 compund so in theory, they last longer for street use
thats only true if the middle compound is harder. if the difference between PP2 and PP1 is just the side edge ( the edge is softer) then there is no benefit for the street. unless you're ripping it up like theres no tomorrow
BTW: X-sipe on PR3 is worth the extra cost. shit works in comparision to PR2.
I bought the 2CT over the PP because at the time of purchase the 2CT was about the same price. It was maybe $10 more per tire so I figured why not. Do I really use that extra sticky at the edges, very rarely.
they keep changing the names....my current (and last set) of tires are pilot road 2CT. speaking only for those, i got almost twice the mileage from the road 2ct as i did from the pilot powers before them.
^those are two very different tires, not a change of a name. one is a road touring (pilot road, which comes in version 1 2 and 3) and the other is sport (pilot power, comes in version 1 and 2, with the second being called the 2ct)
pilot road 3, is also 2ct with xsipe.

I thought that, too, when I purchased the Power 2CTs. It's wrong. The shoulder compound is softer, but the center compound is the same. My 2CT Power lasted just as long as the first Power did.

"power" = sport
"road" = touring
FWIW Pilette's little monster has standard Pilot Powers. They seem to grip just fine, though I haven't done a track day or any super-hard, gumb-up-the-tires cornering on it yet. My XB12 came shod with a new PP 2CT on the rear and a worn-out bridgestone up front, so I think I'll stick a new 2ct up front to keep it all matching, though I might just go with a standard PP since its unlikely I'll get this big adv-tourer cranked over so far as to really take advantage of the soft edge (if I were putting two tires on it I'd probably go with a touring tire like the PR3 or Avon Storm 2 Ultra).

Subject line denotes comparing Power to Power... so the answer is "center compound is the same between them."
Like you, Pilot... I just replaced the 2CT for the regular Power, since I ride all granny style most of the time. Save the cash for an extra tank of gas (or 2).
Road 2's are a little heavier. Turn in will require more effort.
Road 2's will yeild much more longevity. I get 3-4000 miles out of Powers, and 8-9000 out of Road 2's. The sacrifice is less traction. Most sensible riders will not notice the difference.

the Power 2CT may be slightly stickier than the Road2 but
my commuting squares off the Powers (rear) in 4K mi.
Fronts seem fairly equal wear-wise.
I recall the Road2 felt slicker new in freezing temps
last year compared to new Power2CT this year.
Really comes down to how hard you push your tires.

yeah, i am aware that the road(2ct or otherwise) and the power are very different tires. what i said was that the names seem to have changed since the last time i purchased a set of
pilot road 2CT since there no longer appears to be a tire with that name..
The Pilot Road 2ct was never a tire. Its actually called the Pilot Road 2...that happens to use 2ct technology.
The pilot power 2ct and Pilot Road 2 came out around the same time, so people just called it 2ct.
now assuming i used the names right that should be correct. :P
Thanks everyone, I think that helps me make up my mind. I think I'll go for the Pilot Power 2CTs since the cost differential between the standard PPs and the PP 2CTs isn't huge.
^Although true, since 90% of the people probably wouldnt need it anyway (ill leave you to judge your own skill) why not just get the satisfaction of a juicy burger instead? sorry thats my fatass talking. :P or maybe a tank of gas? lol
I've run the 2ct's on my 1100 for about 2k now. 90% mountain riding. I am super happy with them. They wear even based on my riding style and terrain and they stick.
