Title: 5th gear does not engage properly (1100 EVO)
Post by: Mau on September 12, 2011, 10:40:56 AM
Hi all,
I have a recurring issue with my new Monster 1100 EVO (less than 2K miles on it).  The problem is that when riding and shifting from 4th to 5th, the gear does not engage properly.  Instead, it seems to go into Neutral, when I accelerate there is no power on the wheel and the revs go up.
I have to shift one more time and it engages normally.

Initially, I though maybe I am not lifting the lever hard enough.  I however, even when I have been trying to be mindful of the situation, It keeps happening once in a while.

Is this a usual problem? Would it be a rider issue or is it mechanic problem?

I appreciate all advice. thanks!

It's called "false neutral". It's usually attributed to not shifting with enough force. Keep in mind that if it happens again, to keep shifting up to the higher gear  to avoid any potential rear wheel lock.
