Title: Tank questions please help!!!
Post by: Monster750ie on September 14, 2011, 07:25:23 AM
Good morning everyone,

So I had my first accident last Saturday. Luckily I'm ok but my 02' 750 needs work. My tanks ruined umungst other parts. would anyone know if the 07' 695 tank would fit? It looks the same.

Thanks in advance!!

'07 695 tank is plastic, and all of the internal parts are different.
It likely could be made to work, but not easy or cheap.

Any steel Monster tank from '02 to '06 will work for you.

I think there's a few other tanks that will work, if you're up for a bit of reading:

Afternoon everyone,

I'm running into some issues. I started my bike last night for the first time after the accident and noticed the fuel light was on.. seemed strange because I know there was plenty of fuel in it.

After about 10 minutes the bike warmed up and I noticed light smoke so i got on my knee and inspected under the tank area. Thats when I was I had a fuel leek from the left side seem where the tank meets the seat. I read up on the forum and found others with the same issue but no one offered a solution. Can this be fixed??

I am in the market for a new tank, At this point ill take plastic cause after 10-12 days of searching steel tanks are nowhere to be found. Problem is I dont want a new fuel pump. So i'm stuck any thoughts?

CA Cycleworks wont have their new tanks ready till early next year. Should I just continue riding until I find a direct replacement?

haha nice one, I own a TIG welder and have experience welding Aluminum, steel & stainless. Should I just drain / clean and re-weld? anyone have some references on how I should do this?

You could TIG it, but I braze them. Make sure you remove the innards first.

The welding is just to reinforce the spot welded joint.

The tank should be coated after welding, because the real problem is one or more of the spot welds has cracked the tank floor. I recommend POR-15 for steel tanks.

The coating also eliminates the rust issues you will have after any weld heat is put to the tank.

edit...

if you plan on having the dent repaired do it before coating.

Leak has been fixed, Duke painter you were 100% correct one of the spot welds that hold the hinge plate to the base has cracked. its completely sealed. Now to get the dent pulled, and the tank painted. Anyone know any decent shops in the NY, NJ area?

If I wasn't going to repair and paint it myself, that's what I'd do, send it to DP.
