Title: My new tourer
Post by: seevtsaab on September 17, 2011, 04:06:43 AM
I have been looking to steal an ST2/3/4 but just had to much trouble finding one I could afford.
Shopped a nice Bandit B12 but it didn't stir the loins.
So for two up, I grabbed this. Ergo's surprisingly similar to the Monster, for driver anyway. More leg room, but as it's tall, I may adjust the seat down a bit.
1994 1100RS. 130K miles. $2500. This will get us started.

Nice!  Those are one of my favorite BMs.  A bit lighter and simpler than most, good bikes. I see its already got a comfy aftermarket seat too.  [thumbsup]

I just snagged a tourer too - I went with a buell XB12XT.  Love it so far, but haven't done any big trips yet (did blast from boston to DC though bringing it home).

Talk about a coincidence! I bought mine from a guy sporting a Aprilia Futura! [laugh]
Man he loves that thing, this poor boxer hadn't got 100mi on it from last November.

I'm committed to riding the wheels of the Monster but longer trips and two up the BMW gets the nod.
Just ordered a Givi 52L so pillion has a backrest and the kitchen sink can come along.

Have any of you guys looked at cheap ST2s as a touring option. I only go on a couple big trips a year but always am thinking about something cheap and more highway friendly when I do. Don't get me wrong I'm fine doing 500 mile of slab on the monster but I have ridden a newer RT a lot and big wind protection and quiet tall gears are nice too.

Uh, not really lighter than many.

I had a 1996 R1100RSa for about 40k miles back in the mid-90s.

As a matter of fact, I had it alonside my 1996 FLHRI Road King.

If memory serves the BMW was about 600 lbs and the Road King was 700 lbs and ironically the BMW actually FELT HEAVIER (because it was so tall).

It was a nice bike and I have fond memories of it, but it was a little more buzzy than I wanted at speed (and it really liked to just sit at 70-90 mph).

Nice solid bike though.
