Title: Carb Starting procedure
Post by: He Man on September 18, 2011, 11:32:56 AM
Whats the proper procedure to start a ducati monster as the temps dip?

The carb in monsters cut off O2? or do they increase fuel entering the engine? Should you crack the throttle partial prior to starting?

Same as the older carbs, it's actually an enriching circuit.  adds extra fuel.

technique depends on the bike, i've found.  my 900ss barely starts in cold and i have to work the throttle a lot.

the 600ss fires right up, no throttle at all.  just cold start lever

The stock carb enrichening circuit works well and is the only thing it has over FCRs. Just push the lever, start and boom. The FCRs, is it one two or three squirts of the accelerator pump? And how open should I have the throttle? You develop a routine for your particular motor with FCRs.
