Just did a long detail of the S2R yesterday and was surprised to find white scaling on some surfaces. I use S-100 or Simple Green with a thorough rinse (not powerwash) to clear away the soaps and have not seen this on any other bike I own.
For example, the shock body now has permanent spots on the cadmium finish. The inner sleeve of the rear wheel (where the rear stand goes) has white pits, as does some miscellaneous parts of the bike. I have a M900 which is kept the same way, and no surface weirdness. Though I have seen some pretty scaly M900 and SS bikes from the 90s, so I can't claim they're immune.
Just curious. I'm surprised to see any scaling on a bike that's well kept, washed, and essentially dried with compressed air afterwards.
