Title: Painting the front cowl on an S4R
Post by: zeoniks on September 19, 2011, 04:54:59 PM
I have deep scratch on the front cowl and I'm wondering if there are any tutorials to painting/touching-up the front cowl. Here is a picture of the damage:

Thanks for all the help.

So I looked over that tutorial and thought it was pretty good, but there really wasn't really anything on plastic preparation and painting. Are there any other tutorials out there?

Not exactly a tutorial, but a lot of ground about painting and repair can be found in that thread.

If you don't find what you're looking for post up or pm me.

A few questions before I finalize my approach.

- Would it be better if I just paint over that one spot or repaint the entire windscreen?
- If I just 're-touched' the affected area, how would it match with the rest of the entire windscreen?
- Are there websites where I can purchase paint/primer for a reasonable price? (Color Rite is incredibly expensive).

Few more questions:

- I have this black vinyl stripe on the windscreen. It is alright if I just I just tape over and work around it or is it necessary to take it off?
- I managed to find the PPG code and a paint shop that can make the paint, however I don't have a gun or compressor. Are there aerosol equivalents for the red paint?

If you work around the stripe it will be more difficult.

It might be better if you pay them to spray it after you fix it as there are no real good equivalent rattle can matches.
