I went downtown today. I found metered street side parking. I put money in the meeter and went on my way. I got back to my car before the money ran out and before the 4pm rush hour no parking. At 3:55 I start my car and signal to pull out, but I am blocked by traffic. at 3:59 cop pulls in behind me with lights on. I assume that I am being pulled over for some reason, so I wait for the officer to approach. 4:00 the officer turns off his lights. I go to pull away and he darts around the side of my car and blocks me in the space. 4:04 he writes me a $100 ticket for parking in a rush hour no parking zone and puts it under my wiper (with me in the car, with the engine running, with the car pulled half way out of the parking space). I ask him why he gave me the ticket he just pointed to the signs. WTF! >:( I HATE DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you gotta be kidding
Don't be shy and contest the sh!t out of that ticket. DC cops will give you a ticket for whatever reason, especially during "that" time of the month.
I just don't even see how they can justify this if he wasn't even fully in the spot. If you're either moving in or out of the spot, you're not in the spot. Simple.
I plan on fighting it. I'm going to try and do it on-line. I will present my story and a picture.
If they pull behind you while parked, it means to move.. since you didnt, he gave you the ticket..
Fight it. There was a recent article in the Post talking about the ridiculous number of parking tickets given in the district and how a extremely large percentage of them who fought, ended up winning. It's just a way for them to make money
Found it: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/commuting/district-rings-up-millions-in-parking-ticket-revenue/2011/08/23/gIQAxcefZJ_story.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/commuting/district-rings-up-millions-in-parking-ticket-revenue/2011/08/23/gIQAxcefZJ_story.html)
I fought mine by simply not paying it. Four or five years ago I parked my bike on the sidewalk during a date, came back to a $100 coupon.
Screw 'em.
The date was terrible anyway.
I like how you think [thumbsup]

Its safe to say thats easy on a bike.. If you were in a cage the meter maids will give you a new wheel lock faster than you can smoke a tire. :-X :-\ :-X
Nonsense! That's just a job for Angle Grinder Man!!

That begs the question, how would you know?!?

I've seen people attempt to drive with those DC wheel locks - on Georgia Ave by Howard U. That was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time [laugh]

Since the diplomats are'nt paying their tickets they gotta get that money somehow.
I have a jobsite uptown on 14th street NW and I am so glad that I can park my bike behind the construction fence. The site supervisor is a rider so he's cool about it.
Parking is the pits!
