Hi guys,
I just changed both sprockets and my chain for the AFAM quick change carrier kit.

I've installed everything with the right torque. Now you'll see in the video that something seems wrong. Is it normal ? To be honest i'm kinda confused ... what's wrong with my set-up ?

Thanks for your time !
I've fitted a good number of those, and they've all had a bit of play like that.
Geez thanks. I was kinda anxious hehe
Hmmm....
I'm planning to get this as well, coming from a European kit, Wieres, because they no longer make 520 sprockets. The Wieres sprocket had some serious shavings with only one mm misalignment. The sprocket I used was a machined 525 and wasn't machined with pointy teeth. My new, and last, sprocket is also a machined 525, but now I flipped it around to correct the misalignment.
Is a one mm misalignment enough to shave an aluminum sprocket or is that because of the missing teeth pointy-ness? Another thought... does the small freeplay work effectively to 'adjust' alignment?
I've stopped fitting aluminum sprockets unless the customer specifically requests one.
They require more fanatical care to survive, and the weight savings isn't relevant unless you're racing for money on someone else's budget.
1mm misalignment shouldn't tear up a sprocket.
I strongly suspect that the alignment varies at least that much from bike to bike due to manufacturing tolerances.
Probably varies that much due to riding loads as well.
I don't think the freeplay allows it to adjust alignment under load.
At full throttle in 1st gear, a stock S2R800 will produce about 2,000 lbs of tension in the chain.
Even the very small lateral offset between the teeth and cush drives will have the freeplay taken out.
Even at a sedate cruise on the highway, chain tension will be about 150 lbs.
Thanks Toudg for raising this.
My S2R800 is standard but also has a little freeplay and was wondering the very same thing.
Cheers.
Yeah and sorry for my english .... geez, I'm limited but i'm learning good ! [drink]
Interesting thread, especially since I had been looking for a rear sprocket for the S2R.
Is it possible to shim (add a washer etc) to eliminate the play?
mine has the same amount of play and has over 7k miles on it. ride on.
