Title: Update:- Gulf Cafe Fighter On BIKE EXIF!
Post by: Moto Motivo on September 24, 2011, 09:44:50 AM
The Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter is starting to look like a motorcycle.
There is still a lot of work and I am at the point where I have to decide if to fit a small fairing or keep it naked.
Exhaust system will be next.

Beautiful  [thumbsup]

Pin striping on fender, seat and maybe around a tank side grip pad? It's blue only, seen from the side...

I like it too. What kind of forks are those?

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: junior varsity on October 04, 2011, 08:50:51 AM
OEM Showa SBK forks from the 748-996

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: MendoDave on October 04, 2011, 08:57:35 AM
That's what I thought they looked like.
I have some on my 750 but yours look a little more polished.

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: Moto Motivo on October 04, 2011, 12:52:12 PM
The front end is alsmost brand new.  It came from a 916SPS that was upgraded by dealer to Ohlins.

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: junior varsity on October 04, 2011, 02:33:13 PM
Yup. Same forks as 748-996. The fancier spec ones would have had TiN coated sliders. They work great revolved w Ohlins internals.

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: Moto Motivo on October 04, 2011, 02:39:56 PM
The 916 never had TIN shocks, they came out on the 996 models.  These shocks were re-valved and also had a spring change and are perfect for the weight of the GULF Oil bike.

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: junior varsity on October 04, 2011, 02:55:21 PM
Uh forks... But I don't know why you are telling me.  Dude had question on forks, and non-TiN 65mm-mount caliper spacing Showas (which were standard on the base model 748's and 996's) is the answer.

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: Moto Motivo on October 04, 2011, 03:12:06 PM
O my, forks, shocks, 65mm, TIN, 916, 996.  You are correct, they are Showa "forks" from a 1998 916 SPS with 65mm caliper bolt spacing.

I was merely adding more "general" info. ;)

Title: Re: Sneak preview:- Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter
Post by: MendoDave on October 04, 2011, 03:16:21 PM
I found out what I wanted to know, they are not KYB's or White brothers suspension or Showas from a Gixer 750.

Quick update on the Gulf Oil Bike.
I decided to fit a fairing and that will be here on Friday from the painter.
I received the billet belt covers from SpeedyMoto and they look GREAT.  Fantastic quality!  See "before and after"
belt cover pictures.

Where did you get that tail?

edit: looking at it more, looks like the Rad Duc tail and subframe, good choice!

Thanks' for the compliment!
I knew from the start that the bike needed to be Gulf Oil colors.  I own a Gulf Oil GT40 and always thought that the colors would look great on one of my custom bikes.  The difficult choices were:1 Color of the frame and 2 if the bike was going to have a fairing.  I am glad that I went with the Aluminum silver frame and small fairing, they just complete the whole package perfectly.

Looks pretty good.  I'd like to see a better solution for the elliptical frame mount/lower swingarm pivot.  Hopefully I'll have another batch of those pucks coming in soon!

Do you get your parts direct from Radical Ducati?  I'm after a few things.....

So is my checkbook.  ;)

I do want to do something with it though, as I love the bike.  It's just too long of a reach for my back to handle.  taking all the parts off/out and putting them onto a 749/999 though...   [evil]

My son has been buying and selling a bunch of classic cars of late to Howden Classics in Zebulon and I've been down there twice in the last month. http://www.howdenclassics.com/new/about.php (http://www.howdenclassics.com/new/about.php) Next time he needs me for a run, I may ask to drop in if we have the time and you're available. Would like to see your set-up.

Was that your Gulf GT-40 in the pits at Heacock Classic last year at VIR http://www.virnow.com/event/guid-58 (http://www.virnow.com/event/guid-58) or perhaps one of your client's? Think I have a snap somewhere.

We will never put a SBC in a GT40 replica.

Also have a 358 CI 560 hp FI car in the shop at the moment.  Great fun!!!!!!
