Title: M1100 EVO - 13.5 Litres? Indeed?! or do I miss something?
Post by: godudi on September 25, 2011, 01:03:08 PM
Hi

Today I managed to fill in 14 litres of gasoline into a 13.5 fuel tank capacity (according to the bike spec.)
How could it be?!
see the attached pic..(https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D6160770_9694230_676551)

You bought a pre ABS 1100, but paid for an EVO  ;D

You paid for more gas than you got  >:(

You overfilled the tank  [thumbsup]

Ducati tells you to fill up to the start of the tube that leads up to the gas cap.

From there to the very top, it's almost a full liter.

The previous generation Monster plastic tanks are smaller than advertised. Maybe the new tanks are actually larger?

there should be a little hole there to prevent overfilling. if you do it just drains and drips to the floor.

Yes, but not until there's gas well above the neck tube - almost a liter.

I know.  But if you did.... they'd be smaller than everybody elses  [cheeky].

So.... I bet you could fit more gallons in the OP's tank than I (or any other former imperialist) could  ;D.

I can tell for sure that no fuel was entering that hole. I always watch it.
So basically so far I couldn't find any reasonable explanation in any of your comments :(

The answer is that Ducati rates the volume of the tank alone - and as stopintime has been explaining to you - in addition to the volume of the tank.... its possible to fit almost another litre within the filler neck before it begins to hit the overflow.

 :)

On the hole at the top of the filler neck... I'm guessing that leads to the evap canister... I did the same thing last week: oh, it's an overflow preventer hole! Those geniuses at Ducati!

Thought about it some more, and I'm guessing engine vacuum draws thru the charcoal canister, line out of canister to the filler neck, to suck up some of those evap fumes...

Evap canister only exists in the US market.

The OP seems to be in Israel and so its likely that just like my own non-US M1100 there isnt now and never was any evap canister fitted.
