Title: '05 S4R full system options, WITHOUT slipons
Post by: Rowdy on September 25, 2011, 12:54:34 PM
I'm in need of some guidance.

I have an '05 MS4R, with a midpipe that directly replaces the "udder" and some Termi slipons, the 45deg angled ones both on the RHS.

What I'm looking for is 50mm dia headers and midpipe that I can fit to my Termi's. I will be resizing the Tremi's inlets to suit but want them to sit in the same position.

I think the Zard "ZD 027 LCR" looks similar to what I want but I need the collectors (the bits that bolt directly onto the head) and I don't know what size the pipes are.

I have sent out numerous e-mails to suppliers and (on the rare occasion that I get a reply) the std reply is "buy a full system and sell your stuff."

Otherwise I will have to look at getting a local shop to make the bits. I thought there would have to be another option.

Any assistance you can offer would be great.

If I'm correct, you have the slightly thinner Termi slip ons, they have only a short pipe before they connect to the midpipes....

Any S2R800/S4R midpipes will fit.
............

Upon rereading your post I see you already have udder-less pipes. Why change them?

you should have many options.  as long as you fit a mid pipe like Marvin's an S2R 800/1000 system will fit.

Thanks for the comments.

The Marving Cat Eliminator Mid-pipe is a direct udder replacement, ie. it uses the original headers and is standard size tube. What I want to do is install a full 50mm dia system and use my Termi slipons (which will need to be enlarged to fit), so I need the larger headers and a larger mid-pipe setup.

So far all I can find are full system setups that have high pipes or really low ones but not one that follows the same lines and has the same junction points as the original system, hence allowing me to mount my Termis on the larger exhaust system.

Hope this makes my intentions a bit clearer.

Thanks. Keep the comments coming!

I don't think you'll find an aftermarket 50 mm midpipe.

With all that custom work to the pipes, connections and cans end caps - you're almost at the cost of a custom full system anyway - probably over a new ready made full system.... ?

I assume you're not making larger exhaust ports, so why the larger pipes?

Not wrong wishing something unique  8)

I'm not an expert, but I don't think even the full systems have larger openings where the exhaust head ports meets the headers. If that's true, even a full(er) system will be restricted by this 'bottleneck'. Plus, I'm not sure that this 'bottleneck' is really a power problem. Usually, a less restrictive exhaust means more top end power and less bottom/mid range torque and it depends on larger exhaust valves and ports.

If that's your plan - maybe you need custom made headers and pipes with larger openings all the way.

Looks like what I might have to do.

I'm not "penny pinching", too late for that. I was just looking for an easy option before I get in too deep.

Thanks.

Well, now I really need some help.

My local bike exhaust shop quoted $2,000 to make up a stainless system that would mount up to my mufflers.

I love the look of the Akraprovic full system to suit the S4RS (http://www.akrapovic.com/motorcycle-exhaust/products/ducati/model/monster-s4rs-2006/evolution-6/). I priced up the muffler on it's own and it is about $1,000 and will take 10 weeks to arrive.

So for me to get what I want is going to take 3 months and cost $3,000.
Does that sound a bit over the top to anyone else?

Any other options or ideas??

3k?  that's almost half the price of your bike.  IMO not worth it.
Are you looking for under tail exhaust or right side exhaust?

2-1 RHS.

Final price from another custom shop is $800 to do all the pipe work in stainless.

I can cop $1800 for a custom full system.

I will post pics once done.

Thanks for your help.

Another thought, not related to exhaust....

If you're doing all that work on a 996 engine - are these fancy injectors on your list?

They look pretty cool.

I'll be making some enquiries about them for sure.

Thanks.
