Title: Cool things seen from your bike Post by: Monsterlover on September 28, 2011, 05:39:09 AM I rode to the shop yesterday intending to head home at 5 or 6pm, but didn't leave till 730 and it was dark, and cold.
I had none of my cold weather stuff with me, and no clear visor to replace my tinted one. I keep the speed down and rode with my shield up a little. Sometimes I cut through an industrial park for a change of scenery. It's like a giant letter "P" off the main road. The loop has multiple paved paths that branch off and dead end (this is all field and scrub brush). One of them dead ends at a gate that has an actual road on the other side, with a space for foot traffic. It also accommodates motos :) I slipped through off the main road and into the park. There are only a few business that have built there so it's mostly just open field with a small lake in the middle of the "P" The corners are long sweeper types with field on both sides. I came through one and had to slow way down to take in the scene. It's dark and there's a layer of fog covering the fields on both sides of the road and the road itself. The fog is about 4' thick, and is floating at waist level (waist level on the bike that is) The fog seemed to glow. Even though it was a low light situation the fog was plain as day. Looking off into it, it stretched from peripheral left to peripheral right. Sort of eerie, but really cool. Probably one of the coolest things I've seen in quite a while from the saddle. The rest of the ride home was uneventful. Except for the fat dead racoon I ran straight over [laugh] [puke] Title: Re: Cool things seen from your bike Post by: spolic on September 28, 2011, 01:51:47 PM I've seen the narrow slot between two semi trucks on a California freeway.....at 70mph [leo] Oh, what fun.
That low fog, I've always called Dracula Fog. We get it quite often in my neck of the woods, very cool to ride through. Title: Re: Cool things seen from your bike Post by: Monsterlover on September 28, 2011, 02:15:15 PM Dracula Fog. . .
Great description. Title: Re: Cool things seen from your bike Post by: Desmo Demon on September 28, 2011, 07:41:30 PM A couple of summers ago, my wife and I were riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway at night, no clouds in the sky, and got to watch a full moon come over the mountain horizon in front of us. We were the only ones on the Parkway for a few miles, and it was like being in a video game. I thought it was soo cool to see/watch, that I had to let my wife follow me for a few miles....it was like the person in front of me (my wife) was the figure in the video game and I was mind controlling her through the curves.

It was like we were both stuck and neither could stop or slow down. He was so close I could have kicked him but he stayed just off the side of the road. (must have been my Termi's hypnotized him). 9mm wheel gun was to deep in my pocket to reach darn it and I don't think I could have explained the shooting. A lot off them get distemper and do weird things. ;D

those squiggly curvy road signs with not a single other vehicle in sight. Can you expand on that "mind controlling" your wife thing? I need some tips on that. Seriously! He'd grab a mouse/whistle pig out of the rocks, toss it up, and eat it whole. As far as I could tell, he didn't bother chewing!

Title: Re: Cool things seen from your bike Post by: the_Journeyman on October 04, 2011, 04:33:41 PM I'm fortunate to live in the mountains.
Ever wonder why they're called the "Blue Ridge Mountains?" Taken one fall evening off the Blue Ridge Parkway. (http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn168/the_journeyman/Pans/Twilight-PAN-1200.jpg) This is always a breath taking sight on US64 just east of Highlands, NC. (http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn168/the_journeyman/Pans/Highlands001-PAN-1200.jpg) I stopped & turned around in the middle of the road for these on a group ride: This is Santeelah Lake, right at the foot of the Cherohala Skyway and about 15 minutes south of Deals Gap.
