Title: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: Grampa on September 30, 2011, 07:29:06 AM Last Sunday a friend of mine went down. He blew a corner, target fixated, went through a barbed wire fence, hit a tree and was tossed about 50 yards from his bike.
Punctured lung, swelling on the brain, a couple of broken fingers. He was knocked out but breathing on his own when taken off the hill. Yesterday morning he was taken off the meds that kept him sedated and is currently in a coma. Wear the gear (Wayne was a jeans and vans guy). Take sportbike riding classes. Always ride within your skill level when riding as a group. The life you change when something like this happens.... is not just your own. Friends and family share that pain... and they dont get the morphine. Please send positive thoughts Waynes way. :'( Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: ungeheuer on September 30, 2011, 07:46:20 AM Wayne listen:
GET WELL. And then go for a ride. And take more bloody care this time [thumbsup]. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: r_ciao on September 30, 2011, 08:11:20 AM That's painful viewing the pictures.
Hope your buddy Wayne recovers soon. Ride safe everyone. [Dolph] Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: faolan01 on September 30, 2011, 08:20:04 AM damn! hope he comes through everything ok!
Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: Kaveh on September 30, 2011, 09:39:35 AM That sucks Joel :(
I hope Wayne recovers fully and soon! I'm sorry you had to experience that, I can only imagine how hard it must be :( I'm glad that you are a friend that manages the risks of riding. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: fastwin on September 30, 2011, 09:49:34 AM Even though I didn't screw up as far as my riding goes the turkey attack that broke my neck absolutely devastated my wife. To this day, four years later, she wigs out every time I go for a ride. If I could call her every 5 minutes while I'm riding it still wouldn't be enough for her. She was thankful that this summer was so damn hot. It kept me from riding as much.
BP's right when he says the life you change is not just yours. Be careful not selfish. [thumbsup] [Dolph] I hope your friend recovers completely and next time wears the right gear and doesn't ride over his head. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: duclvr on September 30, 2011, 10:28:10 AM I hope he heals up quickly.
I had a moment myself yesterday when some jerk in a pick-up decided to pull a u-turn in front of me. Even though i locked up the brake, I was able to recover. The guy was totally clueless and could not comprehend what he did wrong. [bang] Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: pennyrobber on September 30, 2011, 11:30:43 AM Hope your buddy is okay.
Was on a ride last weekend and saw a guy in front of me almost go over the guard rail turning onto a bridge. Your words ring true. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: Stella on September 30, 2011, 01:51:48 PM Please send positive thoughts Waynes way. :'( Done. And will continue to do so. :'( Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: dark_duc on September 30, 2011, 07:10:52 PM Prayers going out to Wayne...get well soon man. I have seen three people go down this year but all were able to hop right up....gear played a big part in that and none were nearly as bad as that. With just 8K under my belt I make sure to ride within my comfort zone and not push it. Here's to a speedy recovery [beer]
Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: swampduc on September 30, 2011, 07:30:22 PM Saw this news on your fb, bp. Really sorry to hear :(

<shudder> (brings back my Deer Incident two years ago far too clearly) Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: fastwin on October 01, 2011, 07:40:35 AM Deer and turkey are the debil. [evil] [thumbsdown]
Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: graydo on October 01, 2011, 07:46:18 AM Am just getting my bike back together after it and I went under the back of a Toyota landcruiser 2 years ago... me first then the bike followed and the bike was stuck on the back of the cruiser while it was still trying to slow down to stop.... somehow and I will never understand how I managed to roll under the bike while we were all still moving down the road and jumped up to watch my bike still hitched to the cruiser moving down the road... tore a hole in my forearm big enough to put an I phone in, broke a rib and a lot of other bumps and grazes... but I was lucky enough to literally limp away... seeing those pictures make a chill go up my spine... thanks for posting, you are obviously a good friend.
Wayne all the best buddy, Hoping for a full recovery. We all need to learn and remember that we ride for fun and should ride within our limits... there are enough other unforeseen things that happen on the road to manage without taking more risks, and for sure what about those who love us? my 8 year old boy went as white as a ghost and was the quitest I have ever seen him when he heard what had happened.... scared the hell out of the little lad that his dad and best mate nearly died... again all the best to Wayne and wishing for safety on the road for our brothers and sisters on bikes Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: fastwin on October 01, 2011, 08:24:27 AM Well said. [thumbsup]
I remember my then 10 year old step son telling me while I was in the hospital with a broken neck that after thinking about it and seeing what happened to me that he no longer wanted a dirt bike. [laugh] I told him that would make his mother extremely happy! ;D On a more serious note, again, I wish BP's friend Wayne all the best. Bikes can be fixed or replaced, people not so much. Be careful out there folks. [thumbsup] [Dolph] Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: ducpainter on October 01, 2011, 09:07:19 AM Sorry about your buddy Joel.
Get well Wayne. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: zarn02 on October 01, 2011, 12:34:56 PM Good thoughts and all the best to Wayne.
(As someone else said, we can hassle him about gear post-recovery. :)) Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: Grampa on October 01, 2011, 04:43:03 PM Wayne is a lil rough around the edges. Some...ok.... most would call him an asshole. But he's the asshole friend you can call at anytime and he's there to help. He'll give you shit the entire time he's helping.... but he's helping. His friend Jason has been at his side as much as possible and I told him to take this time he have to repeatedly whisper in Waynes ear.... " I will respect my fellow man... I am humble.... I will wear the proper gear while riding " :-)
Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: dennisd on October 03, 2011, 11:44:58 AM I don't know Wayne but he is a brother. Get well soon.
On a side note, in the pic it looks like that tree has gotten in the way before? Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: thought on October 03, 2011, 11:48:23 AM hope your friend is feeling better man
Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: NorDog on October 03, 2011, 02:20:59 PM Deer and turkey are the debil. [evil] [thumbsdown] What Fastwin neglects to tell everyone was that the turkey was trying to mate. Ever since he's sworn off wearing Gucci colgne while riding. Wayne, Godspeed to you. Get well soon. Title: Re: The power of the DMF compels you. Post by: BoDiddley on October 03, 2011, 03:49:29 PM That is sobering, It will all get better in time. Good luck to you.................
