Title: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 03, 2011, 06:05:01 PM After a crappy 80 hr work week and being told the creative department wasn't doing enough I threw in the towel Saturday afternoon. That coming on the heels of working until midnight on Friday because something couldn't possibly wait until 10 am Saturday. My team and I worked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until between 3–4 a.m. and having conference calls at 9 a.m. everyday.
So why am I posting this here? Because at the beginning of September I bought my first Duc and I'm going to be driving the living hell out of it this week and look for a new job next week. Check the weather for Atlanta and you'll completely understand why this is the greatest week of the year to be unemployed. what is it that you do(did) for a living anyway Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: ab on October 03, 2011, 07:08:23 PM ha ha my boss and his boss are here in OH for few days from ATL. Glad they are missing the nice weather you speak of.
ride safe and best of luck. You must be in a nice field and in demand if you can afford to quit a job in this shitty economy. <begin vent> ass wipe manager/bosses/ceo/cfo in general that out-source every thing they can get their dirty hands on </end vent> Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: duc996 on October 03, 2011, 09:19:18 PM Way to go! good luck on the new venture, now go ride and clear your mind [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Buckethead on October 03, 2011, 09:27:52 PM While you're enjoying the b-e-a-utiful weather, remember: every car driver on the road is headed to/coming from work, and they're pissed off and trying to kill you.
Congrats on realizing that 80 hour weeks make for a shitty work/life balance. [thumbsup] Hope you land on your feet. [beer] Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Slim1899 on October 03, 2011, 10:39:11 PM I worked in television/advertising for 8 years.....did the same thing, told them to pack sand and changed careers. I make less money now but am the happiest I've ever been! I wish you the same, ride safe and with a clear mind!!!!
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 04, 2011, 03:51:29 AM Fortunately I have a wife who works and is behind me on this. She's the one who told me to quit.
I'm an art director/creative director and have experience do digital media. So fortunately, there's demand for my work. I moved from a Corp. job to a small agency. Worst case is I'll go back to my old job. Already talking with them. So I should be okay. In the mean time, after the last couple of months, I need a breather. Probably going to ride up to the mountains here and there to. Thanks for the well wishes. I'll post photos. Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Teutonics on October 04, 2011, 06:31:47 AM Enjoy the mountains, it doesn't get any better than this time of year.
PM me if you need any suggested routes or a good local (to ATL) forum if you want someone to ride with (there's always someone riding/looking). Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: sgollapalle on October 04, 2011, 09:32:55 AM Good luck with it all..
I was unemployed for a month in July.. Applying for jobs during the day, partying every night and riding every weekend.. waiting for the duc to get to south FL so I can ride again :) Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: AdmiralKit on October 04, 2011, 10:50:25 AM There are some things you can't put a price on in life, like not being stressed out and overworked. I did the same thing at my former job in early 2009, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Our culture gets so caught up in always increasing productivity levels that we forget there are things beyond profit and money to try and achieve more of. Enjoy the bike and good luck with everything!
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: graydo on October 04, 2011, 10:53:23 AM Hats off to you !!!!! well done for putting yourself first.... everything else will work out in the long run I am sure...my suggestion... make sure you have a long enough break to properly get your head back on.
Enjoy your break man !!! all the best... Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: ItsaDuc on October 04, 2011, 11:19:07 AM Good on you, way to stand up to the MAN.
We are having that same great weather, but alas, wife would kill me if I followed your lead. Please take lots of good pics and ill keep checkin in. [Dolph] Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: take risks on October 04, 2011, 03:33:08 PM Live free, for those who cant!
I rode at least every other day in July/September. Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: drunkfatguy on October 04, 2011, 03:56:08 PM Nothing stinks worse than working for an employer with presumably Zero leadership skills, I agree that kind of environment leads to stress levels that can kill or cause serious health/mental problems. I don't consider it unemployed but a well earned "Sabbatical". Enjoy your vacation and who knows.. maybe the next job will pay you more, have better working conditions and it will make you excited to get there in the morning- As it should be.
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: talljoker on October 04, 2011, 04:31:08 PM Sounds great on the decision but please please please do not do that 99% club that is like...
"OMG There are no jobs out there...and feel pity on me" Actually there are no jobs they want to work or wages they will work for. Please be a maker and not a taker...I am in a job that is overworked (military) , overstressed, and yet I am still happy to a degree lol. My ducati is my relief... Good luck on the job search and please do not become a part of the 99%...if you do not know what I am talking about google We are the 99%... Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 05, 2011, 04:25:23 AM Thanks again everybody. Turns out I'm not getting to ride as much as I hoped. Funny how the wife can find things needing doing. In the mean time I've already been offered some work from former colleagues on Facebook and meeting with a couple of recruiters this week.
If all goes well I'll make a day drive to Chattanooga and get some pic of the riding up there. My ducati is my relief... I was in the navy for 5 years and understand. During my last summer I bought an XS800 and rode it all over new England during the weekend for the stress relief. Best thing I did in the military. Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Goat_Herder on October 05, 2011, 09:09:44 AM If all goes well I'll make a day drive to Chattanooga and get some pic of the riding up there. My family visited Chattanooga from Atlanta earlier this summer. The drive up there (via 75) was pretty boring. What route are you taking? It would be good to know for future reference. Also, I visited Lynchburg, TN (Jack Daniels distillery) and drove thru the backroads. One of the most beautiful drove. I would do that on a motorcycle in a heart beat (if I have the time). Something for you to consider. :)Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 05, 2011, 04:34:16 PM I was actually going to do I-75 to make good time and run up one side of Lookout Mountain then down the other. It's a fun ride all the same.
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: corey on October 06, 2011, 10:26:00 AM mind if i asked what agency you were at in atlanta?
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: duccarlos on October 06, 2011, 12:01:01 PM I would head up to T.W.O. and spend a few days just riding around up there. That ride up 75 sucks.
Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 06, 2011, 06:02:20 PM mind if i asked what agency you were at in atlanta? I would prefer to not say but will tell you they're a small shop in Castleberry Hill. Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 06, 2011, 06:04:49 PM I would head up to T.W.O. and spend a few days just riding around up there. That ride up 75 sucks. I now know how bad that ride up I-75 sucks. I was stiff as a board on that ride. I've been to TWO back in the day with I had my Bandit. Loved riding all through there and up to Murphy, NC to head back to Chattanooga. Now I have a wife and family so those taking off for the day to ride aren't as easy to do. Title: Re: Unemployed & Relieved Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on October 06, 2011, 06:08:35 PM So I did ride I-75 up to Chattanooga and it sucked. While I was up there I did do a quick up and over of Lookout Mountain. Took a couple of pix. I'm not as eager to dive into the corners as I used to be. Probably get more confident with some more riding in the twisites.

Less squids and the locals are not as unhappy to see riders.
