hi,
i had started the thread comparing 696 and the ST3.
have read all the mapping, fuel, heat problems in the 696 forums..........still cant get my head off the ducati.
the ST3 gives about 32 to 40 mpg. wonder how much the 696 clocks in this respect???
also would like to know how the 696 handles uneven bumpy roads. a lot of ST3 owners go in for after market suspension.
i'm an idiot and thought someone was getting 696 miles to the gallon.
this thread could have solved EVERYTHING.

Wouldn't that be nice. Some of the diesel race cars are getting *impressive* but 696 would be a-freakin-masing
For the 696, I'd expect in the mid to upper 40s. dependent on the operator.
My 620 w/ open airbox and PCIII would average around 50 mpg. My 900, similarly kitted get's about 1/3 less miles to the gallon - Wow, and engine 2/3 the size of ther other consumes 2/3 the gas... But based on that a rough guess of the 40s stands.
I'm getting around 45 MPG, the suspension is a tad stiff, but can be adjusted. I ride some really bad city roads here in Michigan, and nothing is bothering me too much.
I could never break much more than 40mpg on my 620. I'm hoping that the 696 is better. I would be curious to see what other people are getting. I should be getting mine in 2-3 weeks, I'll post what I get then.
I've have had my 696 for over 3 weeks and have put on a little over 300 miles on it. I seem to be getting only 30 mpg or less because of my heavy throttle hand. I just added termis yesterday and will see how the mpg's are with my next fill-up. [thumbsup]
I'm at about 660 miles so far and I average around 46-48 miles per gallon. Running premium only. I started with regular and the bike didnt run nearly as smoothly. Premium is a must.
1000miles now. 45mpg. 95 octane. T14 sprocket installed at 650 miles.
I've got 500 miles on my M696. I'm still doing the break in thing till 600 miles and so far I'm averaging 55 mpg combined. 52 mpg for city and about 60 mpg for highway at 75 mph. I'm shifting at 6k rpm.
I have a little over 2100 miles (Termi exhaust) and I'm not getting any better than 38...but I ride her kinda hard ;D
My M696 has 1100 miles on it. I consistently get 40 mpg doing mostly city and the occasional freeway blast. I don't use it for commuting. It is strictly a bike for pleasure. But then again, isn't riding a Ducati always a pleasure? [moto]
I get 35 - 45 when riding aggressively. 50 to 70 when not. I actually got 75 one time. My average is 45 - 50.
I was above 50 for awhile, but then dropped my front sprocket to 14t...I seem to be getting less now. My last fill up put me at 47 mpg.
I've been getting about 48 mpg on average, a low I think of 40. I don't ride it hard though.
During the 600 mile break in period I got around 52 mpg. Now that I have almost 1000 miles on the bike and I can get on it a little more, I see the economy drop to around 47-49 mpg. Not bad at all for a fun bike like this.
Bump.
110.4 miles/1.603 gallons to fill = 68.87 mpg. :o
All twisties and city.
Maybe it didn't fill up all the way... but it was exciting anyway. We'll see what I get on this tank.
I'm in the upper 40's usually city/play, 60 or so highway @80mph. 68 mpg? You must weight nuthin'. I'm tubby. [drink]
I was getting between 45 and 50.
Termi slip ons, Race ECU, 14 T front. Mostly commute and freeway riding but it didn't change much when I went to the hills.
I have a bit of a heavy hand when leaving a stop - I wasn't bringing the tire up but I got it going pretty good.
I get a little worse on the 1100 - 41-44 now. Stock gearing. Stock exhaust. I do more in the hills and twisties now. I did get 53 when I just took a long ride into Santa Cruz and back. In commute traffic. On a Friday night.
also 45-50mpg. I've got Termi/ECU & a 14T going. No commute, just playin on the back roads. Worst I've gotten was 40mph after a hard ride.
Funny, I got high 60s when I first got her, it's been all downhill from then... Half cored exhaust, 14t and 14k miles - I get high 30s to mid 40s
The weird thing is it started getting a lot better after I changed the exhaust (nothing else changed).
15t, 5k miles, LV GP exhaust, stock ECU, stock tires (33 max front, 36 max rear)
I'm underweight, but I ride it like I stole it. The only road I rode with that tank has a lot of very steep first gear corkscrews.
Watch me run out of gas after 80 miles on this next tank. [roll]
edit: yep... this phenomenon was from the pump shutting off prematurely.
I keep track of my MPG on my iphone with GasCubby just for reference and pretty much I get consistently 30.4 mpg on my 696 with fillups of $8.50-9 every time and 93+ Oct gas in city/commute driving. But when I was breaking in the engine and driving more conservatively I used to get 40-50 mpg of course shifting always before 6000 rpms...... Now I really dont care I just drive it how it wants to be ridden and just keep track of it for reference. Im interested in seeing the impact on gas consumption when I add the Termis....
These are my Gas Stats from GasCubby for my M696
Ducati Monster 696

Of course all of this info is based on my riding style, weight (skinny), my daily commute to work (no trips during this shown period) and the conditions/Gas Prices/traffic of the city I live in which is Miami, FL.
my 696 is almost always exactly 45 mpg, and i check it every time pretty much, and im stock except termis and ecu. ive only seen her in 47 and 43 mpg a couple times, either long trips (higher) or thrashing her (lower)
im pretty sure im in the low 40s on average. i'll try to keep better track once i finally get back on the bike when the weather clears up... [bang]
I get between 45 and 50 with termis and 14t sprocket. I have 4000 miles on my 696. That's varied riding but almost no highway miles as I don't really ride on the highway much. I run premium fuel.
Jim ;D

i also wonder if location makes a difference... im in michigan
anyone know if removing your charcoal canister will effect mpg?
Hell, I got 55-60 on my S2R for a while... but that was at 1 mile + elevation. Location does matter... if only in the vertical sense
When i first got my 1100s I was getting 55 - 58 mpg then I removed the charcoal canister and it dropped to 35-40 and I'm going wtf I'm putting the damn thing back on then I see I forgot to plug the line going to the TB's... DOH!
Removing the canister will not affect fuel economy. Altitude does make a difference, E10 will reduce mileage, as will (obviously) traffic patterns.

did you just plug them with M5 screws or something? did you cut them short? mine are maybe 1/8th inch longer than what i think the wall thickness is, i need to take em out and grind them down.

won't affect things too much. but shorter is better.. just make sure to use a sealant
yeah, lock tite?

The thing was I didn't plug the hose that returns to my throttle body's more AIR ecu compensates with more fuel.
DP ecu, pipes, etc but the mileage was about the same when stock-barely over 40mpg cruising, barely over 30mpg with spirited riding
