Title: 2003 620 chain cover
Post by: mgrisham on October 10, 2011, 12:29:29 PM
PO stripped the threads in the generator cover for the two M6 x 1 x 14 (I think) bolts that hold the cover over the front sprocket and chain. I want to repair with Time-Sert. Is that bolt size correct? Are 9.4mm inserts ok or would 12mm be better?

Yes, those bolts are M6x1.0.

9.4 Timeserts are fine.

Prior to going for the Timeserts, you may be able to thread the hole a bit deeper with a bottoming tap, and use longer bolts.
I'm assuming that if you're comfortable with doing Timeserts, that you're comfortable using a bottoming tap.

Good idea. Once I've got the cover off I'll see how much deeper I could go. Thanks!
