Beautiful day in NY, day off from work, great day of riding, on the way home I intermittently notice a burning rubber smell, looking down I see nothing. Bike seems fine until about a mile from home I feel something dragging, pull over promptly and WTF, my exhaust bracket snapped and is stuck on my tire, shredding it around the edge while simultaneously turning the lower pipe in because of the force (hopefully nothing bent) Thankfully the tire did not blow while I was riding, as it was a pretty spirited ride home.
So the question I have, is it normal for a bracket (I believe to be made of aluminum) designed for an exhaust, to snap. Keep in mind I have roughly 1k on my new exhaust or is this just a freak thing. Exhaust was dealer installed, I'm wondering if it was tightened properly or something else that could of caused this. Also, is this a piece that can be fabricated? Obviously I do not want the same piece from QD.

vibration on a piece that was already faulty. Assuming the wheel wasnting hitting it. does the OEM one fit?
No, the oem piece does not fit. I'm going to get the piece fabricated, wondering if it can be made from something stronger or do you think it wasn't made properly in the first place?

from the pic, it looks like a fatigue failure, repeated loading from bouncing up and down.
why is it doing that? could be a bad install. is the exahust loose or anything?
that is the only slip on exhaust i lik and MW sold out of it when i finnaly mustered up the funds (they were on sale for quite a while too!)
The lower pipe was always slightly looser than the top pipe, but I wouldn't say it was flopping around. I'm wondering about reinstalling as I was planning on doing this myself but not so sure now as I am mechanically inclined but by no means a technician
I think I got the last set from mw, I had to wait quite a while for the mid pipe to come in, but was well worth it. They sound and look great!
are they baffled? tahts the big thing in my book, cant live with a loud exhaust. thats why mine is still stock.
if there is a rubber band around it, get something hear resistant and wrap that area so its tighter.
Flatten the piece(s) out and get them copied out of steel. Steel is real.
Might be the exhaust was not fitted loosely until all sections were bolted up. When you tighten one piece before you install another in a system, it puts stress on one or more of the connections. The way to do it is to loosely fit everything, then tighten it up afterward.
That exhaust is badass. I wonder if it has more of an Arrow sound than a Zard/Termi tone. Looks like it.
id just tig that pregnant dog together and call it a day. :P
I have the baffles, but leave them out. They are rubber Banded, thanks for the tip about the heat Res wrap. [beer]
Bergdoefer, Thanks for the advice, i was thinking steel as the current piece is extremely flimsy They definitely don't sound like terms a lot more bass'y, haven't heard Leo Vince. To my ear they were less b1 bomber than the arrows I heard and not nearly as loud.

Those are round cans right? I'm pretty sure I have the same bracket on my '06 S2R 800 (also got it from MW), from the pics/vid it looks like it might be mounted on the passenger peg bracket. Maybe that's what caused the stress on it and caused it to fail. I have mine mounted on the original exhaust hanger mounting point because I don't ride with passengers and took off the pegs. I've had mine on for years and never had a problem.

oops sorry, looking closely at it again, I have a totally different bracket than yours. My bracket is just the flimsy metal/rubber wrapped around the can and connected to the mounting point with a small steel piece. It looks pretty cheesy compared to yours actually. Mine was an early run of the exhaust so it looks like you may have an updated version with the new end caps too [thumbsup]
weld it and put a brace plate on the backside. make sure you mount it correctly
The brackets on my Remus cans are 3/16" thick aluminum. I believe the fatigue strength of the welded aluminum would be less than a homemade steel bracket, unless, as Ducatiz recommends, you add a braze to reinforce it.
The original brackets on the 900SS/FE were prone to cracking -- they are a funky shape to handle the offset of the cans from the frame. The material is about 4mm thick, but they will eventually develop a crack at the bend.
Fix is to weld the crack then add a rod gusset to the bend.
Update on this is I went to my dealer with the snapped bracket and pics. They insisted on picking my bike up and correcting the situation. They are going to contact motowheels (who they purchased from) to contact QD to inform them of the issue. The pipes may still have some type of warranty, but not sure.
I appreciate everyone's advice, and will Update once I hear back from the dealer.

I really like my current dealer. They always have done right by me. They had my tank replaced within 2 weeks of snapping the pics last year, while I got the run around for a year and half from the first dealer I went to. They earned my business.
