Had to order a new starter motor for s4 today at the cost of â,¬334. I took it of the bike stuck the battery to it worked fine refitted it wouldn't turn the bike over disconnected it from the bike electrical system and connected direct to a battery still wouldn't turn the bike over so removed it again from the bike took it apart and one of the magnets came out into pieces so I figure that is the cause of the poor starting.
my S4 is also kinda sluggish when i first start it up.Was it gradual or did it just stop starting? I was wondering how much a new starta would be. Dont they sell kits to rebuild them at a much lower cost than replacement?
I just bought a starter for my m750 132.00 brand new denso unit

This needs to be in http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=698.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=698.0) I could put it there, but you deserve the credit. Good find [thumbsup]
Thanks man. By the way the link I posted ^ links to the alternative parts thread.
Yes the do supply kits to repare the starter but when I pulled mine apart I found one of the magnets to be broken I tried glueing the broken peace back in and it bonded well and on the bench it spun up well but when bolted back on the bike it barely spun the engine over even when connected directly to a seperate battery.
How many miles on the bike?
I'm at about 17K on my S4 at the moment and haven't had any problems with the starter yet
My bike has 7k miles and the starter failed. if the starter cant spin under load then I would replace / rebuild it.

I ordered one from them about a month ago. Great customer service!
Theres just over 15000 mile on the bike and all the dealers I phoned said they never had faults with the starter and nobody carries them in stock they only carry the relays and solenoid's so the starter has to come special order from the factory. hopefully will only take about a week.

The starter came in the post today fitted it and the bike starting and running perfectly me is a very happy camper. But what a stripping match to get at to of the bolts holding the starter to the engine casing definitly not a half hour job to change.
Well I'm glad you for it sorted out
